Written by I discovered yet another little book via Philippe called 10-Minute Watercolours by Hazel Soan. Her work is amazing and so beautifully subtle, with an effortless style and perfect proportions that make you feel as if much more time was spent on the finished product. My work, shown above, doesn’t quite measure up to those standards. But it’s a lovely little book with lots of great tips inside.
I definitely need to practice more and more, and will probably try to sketch a bit more before I grab for the paint brush so I can practice my proportions and perspective. I think I’ve re-read the doodlewash manifesto a hundred times as I continue to try these various techniques. Don’t compare your work Charlie! Chances are good they’ve been doing this a bit longer than the 30 little days you’ve been doodling.
But in the end, I’m getting so much enjoyment from this whole doodlewash thing that I hardly care what comes out next. And the more I practice, the more confident I feel when I reach for the pen or brush the next time. Obsession sounds like a bad word, but I can’t imagine stopping now, nor do I think I could if I tried. And I’ve never been happier! That’s why I hope I can inspire more people to make a doodlewash. Trust me. You’ll be glad you did!
Those are terrific! I’ve got to get a copy of that book. Thanks for the recommendation. It seems creating is its own reward.
Just started into it, but it’s really great. Got in on Kindle, not sure if it’s in print still. Paperback version was pretty expensive! 😉

They carry a personality that I always want to recall as my skill improves. Sometimes I paint something now and think… well… yeah, that’s damn accurate! But feel like it’s missing something.
