It’s been a busy time here, and so this post is happening just as I’m heading to sleep. For today’s doodlewash, I managed a quick little sketch of our lunch, which consisted of food from the local grocery. What always amazes me here is that most of the food from the grocery store is still rather elevated compared to food in the States. Sure, there’s the usual brands of junk food imported from across the pond, but you’ll also find wonderful things like this tarte au poulet. This was a hasty doodlewash, so I’m not entirely sure you can tell what this is, but hopefully it looks rather like food. Each time I’m here, I long for food like this when I return and can never find it. Even the best alternatives come at an exorbitant price. So one of my favorite parts of visiting Paris are the trips to the grocery each day. I’ve made a mental note of everything I want to try before I leave, but sadly, I’ll probably not make it around to trying all the wonderful things I’ve spotted.
Since it’s after midnight here and I’m extremely tired, I’ll keep this post short, but I wanted to pop in to make another post. Today, I did manage to find my way to an art store to swap out some of my Sennelier half pan paints. Most notably, I had to get my Quinacridone Gold back into my palette. It’s equally possible I may have discovered a very inexpensively priced Lamy Al Star limited edition pen that I just had to have. So, it was pretty much a fabulous day that ended with more wonderful time with family. I’m not rushing around to see all of the tourist sites this trip, but instead, just relaxing and enjoying the moment. So, apologies that you’re getting doodlewashes of food, but that’s the main attraction at the moment until we find our way to Disneyland next week. I don’t like the area around the Eiffel Tower as it’s too touristy and makes me anxious. Instead, you’ll find me shopping at Picard and Monoprix, searching for that next wonderful taste of Paris I’ll only have the chance to experience right now.

Sweet dreams of tomorrow’s amazing meal in Paris Charlie! I love the trip you are having and the doodlewashes you are sharing!
Thanks so much, Jodi! 😃💕 Glad you’re enjoying it… I realized many people were probably expecting to see more landmarks, but honestly… I’ve yet to even catch a glimpse of th Eiffel Tower! Lol
I love your trip style! Anyone can paint the Eiffel Tower!! 😉
Awww thanks so much, Jodi! 😃💕 True… I’ve painted that before as I have plenty of photo references from previous trips. Every time I go there I spend the day taking photos of couples who always seem to ask me. I must look like a nice guy. lol
I think that looks yummy! Nice sketch even though you are tired!
Thanks so much, Annie! 😃💕
Good that you can enjoy food there that you can’t find here. Enjoy!
Looks like more scrummy nosh for you, and more envy from this side of the Channel! Ha ha – you mustn’t apologise, Charlie, just keep on having a good time!
Thanks so much, Jacob! 😃 I’ve having fun, but definitely want to find at least one day where I can sketch something more recognizable. Lol Until then… I’ll be serving up a lot of food most likely.
Love your doodles
Looks and sounds wonderful. I am glad you are having such a great time and finding some new art supplies along the way 🎨🍷
Thanks so much, Carol!! 😃💕 Definitely have to get some new art supplies. It’s like a candy store!
Amazing doodlewash, you are so talented! How do you do them so quickly? I’m glad you are enjoying Paris as much as I did.
Thanks so much!! 😃💕 I’m finding I don’t have a choice while I’ve been here except to move quickly! hehe… it’s been a fun exercise that way!
Ah Ah ! In a certain way, it’s “exotic” food for you, so of course you have to draw and paint it ! I must try the “tarte au poulet” I have a Monoprix near me ! ;))) I like this grocery too ! Happy Wednesday !!
Thanks, Laurence! 😃Only if you like a little sweet chutney… hehe… I actually didn’t care for it and wished it was just savory. The tomato one next to it is far better I think. hehe
It sounds fantastic – I’d love to spend time in Paris as you are. I did experience the same kind of thing with supermarket food….but in Taiwan!
Wow… that would be a fun experience! I’ve never been to Taiwan, but sounds fabulous! 😃
Well worth a visit Charlie
looks delish.
i think i remember hearing that there’s a fabulous art store very near the louvre – you probably know about it.
enjoy paris
Thanks, Sharon! 😃 Yeah… I heard that as well. I often get too lazy to brave the crowds in those parts of town while I’m here. hehe But I want to make the effort to get to some of those areas before I leave to check that out!
Great that you just about fitted in a post, well done. A new lamy pen, woop woop, I had a peak at the new LX edition pens yesterday gorgeous, I especially love the rose gold, and they have a new special nib, really want one, I am so pleased you introduced me to them, your al star! 😂😂😂
Yay! So glad I made you a Lamy fan as well! ooooo the rosegold is really pretty!! You should definitely get that one! hehe 😃
I know, I need it!! Maybe one for the self Christmas list 😀
Yes!! hehe… I love those lists… I’ve already started mine! lol
I love that you are spending time with friends and family with a focus on food and a side of art supplies. The tart looks delicious! Enjoy!!
Hehe… yeah… it’s not your typical Paris vacation when we’re here. But it’s super fun and I’m having a blast!! Thanks so much, Cathe!! 😃💕
The food sounds amazing Charlie, so I don’t blame you for wanting to do your doodlewash of it! Thanks for keeping us posted about your comings and goins. I really appreciate that you are taking time out of your vacation to do that for us.
Awww thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕 It’s a bit of a habit to sketch and paint something each day, so I figure I can just take a little time before bed to make a little post to go with it. Hoping to get out and sketch a bit more, but not sure what day I’ll have more time yet.

Hello, Margriet! There was no comment attached! 😊Hehe
The tarte and cutlery look equally good and delicious. I’m sure Philippe is making a list of all the foods you are enjoying this trip so he can prepare them at home! You want some more Paris food treats ideas, visit Paris Breakfasts on Blogger. American Carol knows Paris like the back of her hand. Introduce yourself, she’ll invite you round. I’m sure she’ll like you; you have lots in common. 👌
Thanks so much, Janina! 😃💕 yeah, one of the things I love most about coming here is that Philippe gets newly inspired to try some fabulous French cuisine! hehe Hmm… Paris breakfasts… I’ll have to check out that blog!
I wasn’t sure what it was but, it looked delicious anyway. We discovered grocery store food and also A-road rest-stop food in France. It was a revelation for Americans and reasonably priced too.
Thanks, Dinata! 😃💕 Yeah… this one was a bit obscure for a subject matter! Lol I hadn’t even seen this kind before. The prices are amazing… feels like you’re spending nothing at all.
