Among all of the little things that make me smile in life, I have to admit that those lucky mornings when I don’t have to get up early for anything in particular make me smile the most. Whether it’s the weekend or a day off, I just love that feeling when I slowly start to wake up and realize that I can simply close my eyes and sleep some more. Without plans or deadlines to spring me into action, I love hanging out a little longer in bed, free from the guilt that comes with having “things I must do.” That being said, I often have trouble sleeping for very long periods as my mind tends to keep me awake. But even if I’m not asleep, lounging in a stack of pillows is the best feeling in the world. Here, I can let my mind wander to anything at all and it’s when I get some of my best ideas.

There’s something magical about that half asleep, half awake state that takes my mind to interesting places. Perhaps it’s because I still have one foot inside the dream world and I’m not hindered by bothersome reality. In my stack of lovely pillows, I can continue dreaming about things I’d like to do and even dream up ways I might go about doing them. This past weekend, I began to think about writing and illustrating a book of some kind. Unfortunately, my mind zipped and zapped through so many different possible executions of said book, that I grew sleepy and dozed off before true genius had time to strike. If I recall, in the actual dream I had next, the book was rather well-received and had something to do with a cat. No idea what the plot was or even the title, but that’s why we have this little feline illustrating today’s post.

I’m certain that the actual book idea won’t involve a cat as I’m much more of a dog person and cats have always just perplexed me. But dreaming about it felt good. It’s a lovely feeling to experience something I’ve always wanted, even when it’s not actually real. Sometimes, I just love enjoying a wonderful day dream. An imagined moment of winning the lottery and happily choosing the first thing I’ll do with my imaginary prize. Or another moment where I’m living in Paris for an extended period and find myself fluently speaking the language. I’m still of average means and my French is deplorable, of course, but in these dreams, everything is brillaint! I’ve no idea when I’ll find the time to write a book, but I figure as long as I keep dreaming about it, one day, it’s bound to happen. Just one stack of pillows away from a delightful dream that finally decides to come true.

  1. Aah, dreams. I need to remind myself to make room in my mind for such things, and not just projects to be completed. thank you for sharing your talent with us.

  2. Well firstly, your dreams will come true, I always knew you were the perfect man for a book job, great writing and great illustration, just topic to decided, I think you would write a great children’s book, I can see the news, move over Harry Potter, the new book by Charlie O’Sheilds is the new record breaker, most sales in fastest time. Just keep a close concentration on those dreams, the one with the key to your topic will feature I am sure. Keep those pillows fluffed up and have those mornings in Bed as often as possible, keep saying dreams will come true, you are the one for the great job, oh and although I am a big cat person, I agree, not about a cat, no idea why, I just don’t feel it, but your kitty painting is dreaming good, snuggled in a cushion, cute ❤️

    1. Thanks, Rebecca! 😃💕 haha! Ohhhhh to write something that would be as big as Harry Potter. I don’t think I could quite do something that grand. I’d be happy with readable and generally well-accepted. Lol Yeah… no to the cat. They’re a pain to draw, which is why I’m forcing myself to try them lately. According to the prompts, they’ll be back on the 29th! hehe

  3. Didn’t I said that you were a good storyteller???? So YES ! I really think you can write larger than posts. Novels, or bigger story, why not ! You could begin and see where you go with… No one have to know you do it so….no pression ;)) Come on !!

  4. What a great post, I love your sleepy cat and I am agree the best time to get ideas is while you are in that special half awake state I love that too! And about the book I am sure you will make it happen one day! I just know it! 😉 <3

  5. I enjoy reading everything you write, Charlie, and a book would be awesome! I have a feeling your dream will come true because you are such a hard worker and know how to make things happen! Also, this is a sweet little kitty but I, too, am a bit perplexed by cats. A friend once had a cat that she trained to do tricks like a dog, and that one was pretty entertaining and loveable, but most all the others I’ve met run and hide or have a mean streak. Maybe there is something about me they don’t like or maybe they can sense I am more of a dog person. 🐶😼 😄

  6. What a cutie! It’s the ear pressed against the pillow that seals it I think. I wanna come and tickle his belly, but he looks so happy in his dreaming.

I’m never going to talk ill of sleeping in – it’s wonderful and should be exploited whenever at all possible. 😉 Especially as the temperatures start to drop, there’s nothing quite like snuggling up and listening to the rain, certainly it beats getting up and contending with it.

The book will happen someday! I’m sure of it! <3
