Though I started the month sketching the delicious recipes that Philippe makes, today’s prompt of “moonlit” made me think of the food I had in college. This was the extent of it, really. A greasy box with just a bit of leftover pizza inside. Suffice it to say, my meals have been significantly upgraded since that time, but a bit of leftover pizza is still a pretty amazing thing, even today. Perhaps the best part back then was that it was like having a little treasure in a box, waiting in the fridge, for that perfect moment in the middle of the night when sleep just refused to come. This happened a lot to me, and still does today, as sometimes my mind won’t shut off, and I lay awake constantly thinking about different things that I should be making or doing. Today, I just stay in bed starving, but back then, I would sleepwalk my way into the kitchen and devour a pizza slice. I’m not even sure now if I was actually awake at the time, but even as a dream it was totally delicious.

These days, I can’t possibly do anything like that as my metabolism has ceased to perform at the optimum levels of my youth. Back then, I could tear through an entire pizza and not even gain a pound. It was fabulous! But sadly, today, I have to limit myself to a single slice and even looking at or contemplating a bit more seems to add pounds. It’s the one part of getting older that sort of sucks. Thankfully, there are many, many other advantages that can sort of make up for the downsides. I’ve learned so much that I didn’t have a clue about back then. And there’s a certain comfort in knowing things. When I was young, some things would freak me out. Those same things today are simply met with a shrug. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that the majority of life’s problems are rather small and need not be a bother. If I’m feeling any bit of stress at all, it’s far more likely self-inflicted than the actual end of the world.

And yes, I inflict a ton of stress on myself. I can’t help it really. I just want to DO so many things in life and sometimes I decide to try to DO them all at once. That’s pretty much what’s happening right now on Doodlewash. There are an insane amount of features here to enjoy, and I can’t even keep up with them all. If you haven’t logged in and joined our community, then you really should this minute. It’s amazing! If you are someone who enjoys the art supply reviews that appear in the main blog, then you should definitely check out the art supply reviews from our community. And write one yourself if you feel so inclined! There’s a lot of amazing things happening on Doodlewash each and every day, and I hope you’ll jump in and enjoy each minute of it! But, yes, we do have all those adult things that we have to tend to during the day. My hope is that you’ll at least join us in those twilight moments when you need a burst of inspiration. Doodlewash will always be here for that. Nothing meant to disrupt or add stress to your day, just a bit of snacking by moonlight.

  1. I second the encouragement to sign up and become part of the Doodlewash community. It really is a fantastic place. I’ve learned so much and enjoyed the many artworks, reviews and comments. Love your pizza slice!

  2. I totally hear you about the changed metabolism! Still, your pizza slice is tempting. I agree that this site has an amazing amount of content, and more is always being added. Those who aren’t members should definitely join!

  3. What would the world be like without PIZZA? I love it and could eat it 3 x a week! I even will reheat a leftover piece and have it for breakfast. Once I waken I can’t get back to sleep so I am often here at 4 or 5 a.m. reading posts and checking out what’s new on the Doodle.

  4. “Snacking By Moonlight” That is a one line poem. It brings to mind such grand memories. I would not have thought of pizza but your painting makes that slice of pizza a memory reborn… Always a grand treat to view your art and read your articles.

  5. I think we all inflict stress upon ourselves. One of the things I love about watercolor, is that it teaches you to let go and go with the flow. Trying to control it is a bit like trying to hold water in a clenched fist (not overly useful 😆). It is the most relaxing part of my day, just letting go and being in the moment.
