For today, I decided to try something a little more complex by filling an entire page of my sketchbook with miscellaneous fruits. Though I had a tiny bit of extra time, I wasn’t granted with any extra attention span, and found myself flagging at the end. Not sure if I finished it or stopped halfway through actually, but this is what came out. Many smart people would set it aside and work on it again tomorrow, but I truly don’t have the attention span for that and totally adore my fresh blank page each day. Yet, this is officially the most food I’ve painted at once so that’s a little victory. And I really love fruit. It’s like nature’s dessert. And grapes, because they’re used to make the wine I’m going to have to celebrate in a few minutes. What am I celebrating? Anything really, that’s hardly the point. The way I’m rambling, you’d think I’d already started drinking, but I haven’t, and instead thought I might regale you with some fun facts about fruits.
Most people are aware that tomatoes are actually fruits, but when we were kids, we just assumed our parents were lying in order to get us to eat them. Today, they’re one of my favorite fruits during the summer months and are actually the world’s most popular fruit. Bananas are a favorite of mine, but they are apparently just a touch radioactive due to the potassium. Not a huge concern as you’d have to eat around 5 million to get any sort of radiation sickness, but it’s still an interesting tidbit. They aren’t shown here because they’re not technically a fruit at all, but a berry. And since banana “trees” aren’t trees at all, but actually plants, it’s easy to conclude that bananas are really just here to confuse us. Second only to strawberries, which aren’t berries, but actually fruit, well an aggregate accessory fruit, which sounds perfectly ridiculous, but I’m determined to work that one into my next conversation at a party.
Of course, the pineapple should really be removed from this scene as it’s technically a berry as well, and not actually an apple. Apples are actually a member of the rose family, along with peaches and raspberries. Cucumbers, like tomatoes, are another vegetable-looking thing disguised as fruit. And that bag of coffee beans on the counter, aren’t really beans at all, but just a bag of fruit pits. I’ve come to the conclusion that actually trying to understand any of this is, in a word, fruitless. Thankfully, you don’t have to have a clue about fruit in order to enjoy it. And producers of fruit have catered to the clueless by making those little stickers out of edible paper, just in case. So, I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend and if you’ve made it this far through this rambling post, you deserve to celebrate with a glass of wine as well as this wasn’t really a post at all, but just something fruity.

Wow, you painted a scrumptious array of brightly edible well posed items masquerading as food! And provided enough quirky facts to start the conversation around our dinner table. This was so much fun to read. Now of course I’m hungry, so off to the kitchen for a pear.
BTW, I purchased a star fruit once and found it tasted like nothing much. Bland to eat, pretty to display, making a lovely portrait in your painting.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕 Glad you liked this post! hehe… yeah, I can’t remember actually trying a star fruit, but they do look cool. I hope you were able to astound everyone at the dinner table with your fruit facts! Lol
Ha, are you sure you haven’t already started on the wine? 😉
An audible WHOA! when greeted with this banquet – this is absolutely amazing, Charlie!! A thwack of juicy colours. I’m sure any fruit-averse person would be converted on seeing this; I don’t know what to pluck out and try first!
Thanks, Jacob!! 😃💕 Haha… yeah… I honestly waited until after the post to have a glass of wine, but that’s does seem suspect upon reading it. So glad you liked this one! It was far more complex than I realized half way through. Darn that short attention span!😊 Lol
WOW!! What an impressive Doodlewash Charlie!! Love all the colors!! 🍎🍇🍋🍊 I love fruit too especially the grape variety like you! Cheers friend! 😊🍷
Thanks so much, Jill!! 😃💕 Yay to the grape variety!! hehe… I think I’ll be having more of that fruit in a glass this evening! 😊
I just love to read your post!! The colors are so vibrant – the complexity of your inner dialogue…ha a true artist 😀😄😄🤗
Thanks so much, Jenn! 😃💕 Lol… yep… these are always a look directly in my mind as I don’t edit and just ramble along. 😊 Some posts are more coherent than others, but I so glad you enjoy them!
The joys mine – 🤗☺
Love it Charlie! And I’m already drinking my grapes! 🍇
Excellent!! Hehe… Thanks Jodi! 😃💕 And cheers!!!
Bottom line: Great painting and ‘fruit’ IS Confusing!!
Thanks, Lois! 😃💕 Haha! Excellent wrap up to this rambling post!
Thanks for the smiles, Charlie. And this would make a great textile design! (K)
Aww thanks so much, Kerfe! 😃💕 Yeah… this was more fruit than one man should ever attempt to paint at once in the same day, but it was a super fun challenge! hehe
I would have all of that fruit, I could easily be a fruitarian! A juicy array of natures treats. I think one of my fav fruits is the mangosteen….not sure I have spelled it correctly, it’s small with very little flesh, which is encased in a hard shell, but it’s worth the effort.
Thanks so much, Rebecca! 😃💕 Glad you liked this! And yep… you spelled it right… I’d never heard of that before. Just googled it… it’s so weird and wild looking!! LOVE it! Must try it!
Charlie as usual your painting is amazingly beautiful 👍😃😃
Aww thanks so much!! I really appreciate that! 😃💕
Very colourful, Charlie. I feel full just looking at it!
Thanks, Tom! 😃💕 Yay, that’s a good sign… there’s so much fruit here I almost forgot was I was painting. lol
Wonderful fruit doodlewash and an even better tour of the wacky world of fruits disguised as vegetables and berries pretending to be fruits. I’m giving my daily banana the side-eye now, but enjoying it nonetheless.
Thanks so much, Ellie! 😃💕 Enjoy that banana! Lol I love them as well. I figure a tiny bit of radiation is a small price to pay for such goodness! 😉 Glad ya liked this post!
WOW Sir Charles–agin, you amaze me–this is BEAUTIFUL!!! FRAME IT. 🙂
Awww you’re too sweet!! Thanks so much, Eric!! 😃💕 Hehe… actually, unless I make a print, all of these just stay trapped in a little sketchbook. But I might actually make a print of this one… would be good for a kitchen! hehe
Hahaha love this post ! Also well done on your drawing its amazing ❤
