I’m not actually eating this tonight, but doodlewashes can also be made of dreams and I’m currently dreaming of sushi. I’ve always found sushi to be the perfect food. It combines cooked vinegared rice with other awesome ingredients like seafood and vegetables. And all of it is beautifully presented as a bite-size piece of heaven. Even eating with chopsticks thrills me as it feels so civilized. Early forms were made of fermented rice which earned it the name of sushi, a now antiquated word for any other context, that literally once meant “sour-tasting.” Thankfully this is no longer the case.
Though many people claim to like it, when faced with a choice between this and something like fries, they’ll often respond they’re “not in the mood for sushi” tonight. This strikes me as funny for some reason, because I’ve never once heard anyone say they’re “not in the mood” for French fries. Perhaps it’s the fish, perhaps it’s feeling too lazy to bother with chopsticks, but for some, this is food for a special night. Not me. I could chow down on this stuff daily in a very uncivilized manner if I were allowed to do so. I love it!
It is indeed possible to make sushi at home, but we no longer have room on the counter for a rice steamer. The lack of room on the counter is a much harder solution to solve than solving the lack of a steamer. Without a proper pantry, the main kitchen counter has a become a worrisome corner with food stacked Jenga-style, waiting to collapse at the first breeze. I’m assuming the steamer, if we had one, would go there. So tonight, I’m just dreaming of sushi. But hopeful for a time very soon when that wonderful dream will come true.
