I’m a total fan of autumn and as the temperatures get cooler and cooler, it means we’re heading into sweater season soon! Here we have a doodlewash of our hairy little only child, Phineas, sporting his cozy fall fashion. He actually seems to enjoy his fashion, or is at least appreciative of the extra warmth when the temperatures drop. Walking outside in the middle of winter is a bit of a cruel joke for this short-haired baby, so his ensemble expands to also include a coat and sometimes even boots. For my part, I just love when it’s time to wear clothing that’s designed to hide all of my indiscretions. With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up next, baggy sweaters arrive just in time to be the perfect companion to seasonal gluttony and generally poor choices.
As much as love the baggy sweater concept, much to my dismay, I now realize all of the sweaters I bought in Paris are nothing of the sort. They are the type of sweaters that fit more snugly, hugging your body and telegraphing your exact shape. Apparently, Europeans failed to get the American memo that a baggy sweater is the proper fashion for winter hibernation. But based on my recent purchasing decisions, I’ve removed my ability to cheat my way through winter and will have to be vigilant when it comes to what I eat. That said, you can rest assured I’ll be throwing all of this aside come Thanksgiving and eating whatever is in sight and then some. That’s my American tradition, and I’m rather fond of it, so I’ll be celebrating in that same style in November. Napping shortly after.
Phineas is lucky actually. When he came back home after an extended stay at his pet resort while we were visiting Paris, he was just a tiny bit chunky. We immediately adjusted his food and within a week, he was back to his normal size. I was immediately jealous. I guess only dogs and the rich have the wonderful good fortune of someone deciding what they eat at all times so they don’t overindulge. I’m stuck with only me, and me likes to eat wonderful things and not fuss too much about the amount. But my severe lack of baggy sweaters for this winter season will mean a slight change in plans. As Phineas likes to say, it’s a small price to pay for fashion. Actually, being a Basenji, he doesn’t say anything at all, but I know in my heart that he’s thinking it. And together, we’ll be healthy and happy, eating just what we need to in order to strut our stuff properly all through the coming sweater weather.

Very handsome!
Thanks so much, Laura! 😃💕 But don’t tell him that too much or it will just go to his head. Hehe
Aw, what a sweetie. A very fashionable sweetie.
Thanks, Teri! 😃💕 He seems to know he looks handsome when he wears it. Gets sort of an attitude. Lol
Nice fall fashion statement Phineas! Lucky dog. Well done Charlie.
Thanks so much, Susan!! hehe… glad ya liked Finn’s sweater! 😃💕
Awh! Love Phineas in his sweater. Hope yours are stretchy enough 🙂 LOL!
Thanks, Jodi!! 😃💕 Haha!! I’m not going to make them work that hard. Gonna lose my Paris souvenir shortly. 😊Lol
so gorgeous, so cute! I’ve always admired the Basenji…. you are so lucky to have him. And, he – is one lucky pup to have you guys!! 🙂
Awww thanks, Debi!! 😃💕 Besenjis are wonderful. My last dog was a basenji/lab mix. This is my first full breed and such an interesting personality. Sweet, but lots of attitude! Lol
maybe you’d do more posts on him, lol I’d love to hear more… all about his “attitude” ! he sounds hysterically funny 🙂 cheers, Debi
he’s a hoot… we pretend he thinks he’s in charge of everything. This is actually HIS blog and not mine at all. I’m just hosting it for him since he doesn’t have thumbs. 😉
yes…. I sort of felt that might be the case Charlie! LOL !! rofl
The light and perspective on this are really nice!
Thanks so much!! So pleased you liked it, Jean! 😃💕
I used to “dress-up” kittens when I was a child in doll clothes. 🐱 There is so many great outfits for dogs!! Phineas looks so festive in his winter sweater! Love it! 💚🐶👍
Hehe…thanks, Jill! 😃💕 And that’s awesome!! lol I’m sure those kittens were looking awesome sporting their little doll fashion!! Hehe fun!! 😃😃
Thanks for the laugh, Charlie! 😂 I’m not so sure! 😿
Great sweater, great water color. Except I think Phineas is a bit embarrassed about the length of his sweater . . . how would you feel if your tail stuck out of your sweater?
Thanks, Judy! 😃💕 haha! He’s rather proud of his tail though… always sticking up so I think he prefers it this way! lol
Oh yes green is his thing, handsome boy, snugly!
hehe… yeah… he really likes this one. I think it’s his favorite, but it’s really hard to tell for sure! 😉
Phineas looks phabulous! Green compliments his ruddy fur. Your Doodlewash is beautiful, so detailed with perfect shading and shadows. Please don’t tell me you did this in a half hour. I’d still be hunting down my water bowls.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕 hehe… I had a full 30 minutes to get the sketch right on this one first and a full 45 for color! Yay!
An hour and 15 minutes – I might have found a sheet of paper and my brushes by then, would still be searching for paints. LOL
The green suits him so well. And I’m sure that your new sweaters suit you as well even after thanksgiving and christmas diner:-]]
Thanks, Birgit! 😃💕 I’d love to think that green is his favorite color, but since he can only see the colors that make green (blues and yellows), this is probably a stretch. hehe
What a beautiful sweater Phineas is sporting! I just love how you are so “real” as you describe the proper fashion for winter hibernation. Truth! And I’m glad you’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving as it should be celebrated – so will I!
Thanks so much!! 😃💕 So happy you liked this portrait of Phineas, and yes… Thanksgiving is about FOOD… all bets are off when that day arrives! lol
SO cute ! The sweater is so old school and christmassy , reminds one of the good old days and the picture sparks off wonderful vibes !:)
Awww what a fabulous compliment! Thanks so much!! 😃💕
Aww!!!!! Yay for Phineas! I’m sitting here chuckling like a goon at how adorable this is. Green is definitely his colour. I don’t think we ever had festive sweaters for our dog, but we did get him a headband kind of deal which had reindeer antlers on it. He loved that (not).
Tee hee! So so cute!!!
hehe… thanks, Jacob! 😃 Yes, he’s rather a cute on and seems to be quite aware of that fact. But ooooooo antlers would be cute as well! I don’t think I could get Phineas to do it though. He’s not into costumes… only fashion! Lol
Awwwwww……………. – he’s adorable Charlie!
hehe… thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕 But don’t tell him that or it will go to his head! Lol
Phineas looks adorable in his snug sweater! 🙂 🙂 🙂
hehe… thanks! 😃💕 I think he’s rather fond of it! Better than the alternative at least!
You are very welcome! 🙂 🙂 🙂
He is adorable!! And I so get it about the sweaters! lol
hehe… thanks so much! 😃💕 Glad ya liked this one!
I Love Phineas! He is very fetching in his sweater. (Unintentional doggy pun in there. haha)
I LONG for sweater weather, and was ticked to see that our high is again 80 degrees here in Charleston, SC. Sometimes I think I should move somewhere with actual seasons, but oh well…this place is nice most of the time.
Keep up the great Doodlewashing, Charlie! I love seeing how you’ve progressed. 🙂
Hey there, Nancy!! thanks so much!! 😃💕 Yeah, I don’t think I could stop doodlewashing now if I tried. Totally addicted! Lol I’ll also wish I had your temperatures soon I think!! Gonna be a rough winter here they say. Hehe
Adorable and well-painted.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕
I like the perspective and the color of sweater 😉
Thanks so much, Nay! 😃💕
If Phineas is anything like the Basenji I had, he’s so full of energy that I’m amazed he could gain weight at all. Unless it was raining? Mine *despised* getting wet.
hehe… yeah, he’s totally full of energy! But has always had a bit stockier build than most basenjis. Either way, he’s healthy and happy so that’s what counts! 😃💕
