Written by One of the best parts of the holiday season is getting out the lights to decorate a tree. At least the final bit when the tree is sparkling with color and providing a warm and festive glow to the room. The first bit involves a game of unraveling, no matter how diligent we were to carefully put the lights away the year before. It’s as though the lights came to life in the garage, turning into snakes and quietly slithering into impossible knots. As infuriating as that part can be, everything sorts itself out in the end and soon the tree is glowing bright and ready to be dressed in ornaments. This will be the main event when we’re back home next weekend and I can’t wait!
Last night we saw a play called Sylvia, about a guy going through a mid-life crisis who finds a dog in the park and brings it home. The dog is played by an woman, and as weird as that sounded in the description, it was actually a wonderful show. For anyone who has ever talked for their pets, it was hilarious and insightful. And it made us miss our own little furball, Phineas, who is currently visiting a pet resort and waiting for our return tomorrow. As nice as it is to get away and visit family, it’s bittersweet to have to leave a family member behind. It will be nice to be settled in back home for the holiday season with our own little traditions and lights.
Today, we had a full Christmas dinner with the family, since we won’t be here on the big day. I’m now in a bit of a food coma, though I won’t likely turn down dessert when it’s served shortly. My mom is going to make me some whipped cream, so I may just have that. No matter how much you’ve eaten, whipped cream can just slide between the cracks. That’s why it’s so wonderful! Though it’s December, the weather is sunny and mild where we are so we’re able to sit outside. My great nephew, also named Charlie, is running around with limitless energy. I really envy that right now, but I’m content to sit and just enjoy the time together. It’s a rare and wonderful treat. Next week, we’ll be home again, back to a small and, indeed, far quieter house, but reliving the fun memories of these moments. Starting our own little version of the holiday season, just two guys and a dog, tangled up in lights.

Ah beautiful 🥀 bright lights. Here oct.up jan. Different festival goes on.inbetween lights also that called diwali.same like xmas. Near my house is a one of the biggest charch of Asia. I enjoyed there

Somehow I find the tangled lights very pretty. You could just plop them in an empty bowl, plug them in, and you know they’d be so much fun to see.

You deserve your whipped cream for painting tangled lights. I would have gotten lost trying to get the wires to look right. And sigh, mom made whipped cream is the best.

Food coma! LOL Just seeing those tangled lights made me laugh! Hahaha, love decorations, but really hard to deal with those lights. Okay, so which one of you gets to put up the lights, you or your partner? And does your little dog try to bite them, because our cats do that… some kind of fatal attraction, I guess, Lol! We have to keep them away from the tree, kind of like little kids!
haha! Actually, we do the lights together… handing them off to spin around the tree which sits in the corner. The trick is to be the one who doesn’t have to crawl into the tiny corner side to do it. I usually make Philippe do that bit. 😊 And Phineas… he just seems bored by the whole thing, but I think he does enjoy the lights in the end. 😃💕
