Though it’s always fun to get away and go to a new place, I’m thrilled that tonight we’re heading back home again. I’m actually posting a bit late this evening as I’m attenpting to type this post with my thumbs. Though I managed to paint a little something, I kept getting distracted before I could make a post. I’m currently on a plane and rather tired so “all thumbs” would be a fairly accurate description of what I’m feeling right now. Please excuse the many typos that may occur ahead. The actual travel part of traveling is a tiring experience. But I did actually order a little dessert before getting on the plane, so that was lovely. Even though it didn’t come with a cherry, so this is just a fantasy doodlewash.

Today, I attended a trade show for my day job, while Philippe visited the Art Institute Of Chicago. Yeah, he had the cooler day, but mine was filled with interesting new things as well. When we met up again at the end of the day we were both equally exhausted for very different reasons. But strangely energized for having done something new. Of course, once we made it through security, the first order of business was to find a place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. This is far more difficult than it should be as most airports are built for beer and hot dogs. Finding a wine that doesn’t immediately induce a headache is often tough. But we managed to find a wine bar and close the day properly, complete with live jazz music provided by a disembodied electronic piano. A strangely fitting end for the trip.

Now, as I sit here thumb-typing, I’m just excited to be home again. We’ll be picking up Phineas from his pet resort on the way back, and will then all be reunited again tonight. It’s only been a few days, but I miss that little dog. And I miss our stupidly ordinary life filled with those more expected moments. Home is certainly where the heart is after all, and I always appreciate it a bit more when I’ve been away for a bit of time. Don’t get me wrong, it was a perfectly wonderful escape in Chicago. We ate amazing food and enjoyed wondrous new sights. But no matter how much fun I have in a new place that I visit, coming back home will always be the cherry on top.

      1. I remember one time we had to board my poodle while we went to a funeral. Dad chose a place close to where we were staying. When we picked him up for the ride home, he did not want to look at me. I had abandoned him and he was not happy about it!
