The Last Little Bite

Last Little Bite of Yellow Cake with Icing and fork on a plate doodlewash and watercolor sketch

And so another Doodlewash Adventure comes to a close in May as we bid farewell to a scrumptious month of food and drinks. Thanks again to all the fabulous guests who joined me for the #DoodlewashDinner party with your beautiful doodlewashes! It’s always a bit sad when a delicious dinner ends and there’s just that last little bite before it all becomes a wonderful memory. If you haven’t checked out the feature gallery yet to see all the incredible art people brought to the gathering, then by all means stop listening to my ramblings and click here to go see it!

You may be one of those people who leave that last little bite on the plate. This is something I’ve never personally understood. If you’re that close to finishing something, then why quit? Though I know this bizarre habit is usually only done in a public setting. It’s often a way to proclaim to everyone around you, “See? I’m not an animal. I simply can’t devour that much food” while heading home to snack on something and dream of the bite you left behind. This is not something I would ever do.

Nope, when faced with this last little bite of cake at the end of the party, I will not only devour it, I will use my finger to get every little crumb. I am an animal and proud of it. In my opinion, wasting perfectly good cake would be the true offense. And if that means eating it all up with the reckless abandon of a starving raccoon, then so be it. I pretty much lose all shame when cake is involved. But, I hope you’ve enjoyed all the food and stories this month. And I hope you’ll all join me tomorrow and throughout the month of June as we begin a brand new adventure! As always, you’ll be invited to join along, so stay tuned!

Oh I can’t wait! And….yes, I am an animal as well, I am not going to insult that last bite, no siree!

    • Author

Excellent my fellow animal!! We shall destroy this cake together!! 😉lol And hope you’ll join in next month! I think I’m getting close to the plan and you can play along easily if so! 😉

    • Author

Thanks so much, Jill! 😃💕 Yeah, if it’s cake, there’s absolutely no way! Hehe…so glad you enjoyed this month! Painting food was fun, but I kept craving naughty things!😊 Lol

  7. emayey 6 years ago

I was totally inspired by your food posts… I made my first and then some. And will probably make more… Thank you! 🙂

    • Author

Aww cool!! 😃💕I saw those!! At least I think I did…you’re Arts on Scratch Paper right? There were like 3 or 4 suddenly?! And they’re awesome! Was hoping you’d tag em #doodlewashdinner …I can still add you to the gallery if you want! 😉

  8. Can’t wait to see what next month brings, Charlie! What a perfect image to wrap up your month of food. 💜💜💜

    • Author

Thanks sis! 😃💕Such a fun one, but new adventures are calling me! Actually it’s probably just the A.D.D. but saying it that way makes me sound like a cool explorer! 😎lol

Would pay to see cake on the end of Charlie’s fingertips. Ha!

Wonderful sketch of that little bit of cake. Great way to end this adventure. 💞

I love cake, but I’ve had some really dry store-bought cakes that even the frosting couldn’t save. LOL. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for June!

    • Author

Wow…yeah…that’s bad, Kari! Haha! Frosting can save anything! I used to have a coworker who used it to get his kids to eat fish! Ingenious really… anytime people on my team needed to be more innovative I just starting asking, “how could we frost the fish?” 😉 hope you’ll join the next adventure! 😃💕

      • ybromfield 6 years ago

Ok.. frosting on the fish. That’s gross! LOL

I’m with you! I never leave anything on my plate. My mom was very frugal and taught me and my sister to not be wasteful especially with food. At home, I even lick my plate at the end. There. Now you know my dark secret! 😆

May I eat that tasty looking doodlewashed bite you left there? 😉❤️

    • Author

Hehe…I suppose you can have it, but only if you promise to lick the plate! 😉lol That’s awesome, Teresa! 😃💕Yay you! That’s the only way to roll where food is concerned. Unless the food is actually bad…then it’s okay to walk away I guess. I feel like I should share a dark secret back, but I think they’re already scattered throughout my blog! 😊

  13. Oh what fun this has been, Charlie! I think I’ve put on a few pounds just reading. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.

    • Author

Thanks Michael! 😃Yeah… I’m pretty sure I’ve put on real pounds with this month long food obsession! 😊So glad you enjoyed the adventure! Hehe

  14. Leave cake? Oh, no,no, no, he he…….there must be a lot of animals about. Great month Charlie, now excited to discover June’s mysterious theme of challenges to enjoy.

    • Author

Thanks so much Rebecca! Glad your not a cake leaver behinder! Lol And thrilled you enjoyed this month… a new adventure starts tonight! 😉

What a lovely doodlewash to end a treat filled yummy month of paintings. It’s always such fun reading your posts Charlie – and you have a wonderful way of bringing everyone in on it too. Can’t wait for whats around the corner! ^_^

  16. Cathe 6 years ago

I got stuck on the last bite…the it this or that?! By all means I would NOT leave the last bite, completely wasteful, gulp, wonderful! I love the gallery of images too, so fun to see everyone’s contributions! A beautiful display. Looking forward to June’s adventures.

    • Author

Thanks Cathe! Yeah… there’s just never a good reason to leave a bite behind, especially when it’s cake!! Lol So happy you enjoyed this month’s fun. Hope I can coax you into joining the adventure in June! 😉

I’m glad to see that no one on WordPress wants to waste any food! At least not of the dessert variety…(K)

    • Author

Yeah… this was incredibly comforting to hear, Kerfe! 😃Lol But true… it was dessert, so that was a bit of an unfair test!

  18. Carol 6 years ago

Charlie, thanks for taking us on this food-filled journey through May. We met some awesome talented friends along the way and can’t wait to see what the new month has in store. Happy June!!

    • Author

Thanks so much Carol!😃💕 I was thrilled you joined the adventure this month! Can’t believe June is already here… which includes trying to put the final idea together. Guess we’ll just see what comes out tonight! Lol

  19. Jacob 6 years ago

I was wondering if there’d be a big cake to celebrate the end of the month – I was sort of right! 😉 Very clever. While I am sometimes guilty of leaving bits of food, it’d certainly never occur with cake!

This transition period is always exciting. Looking forward to seeing what’s up for sleeve for June!

    • Author

Thanks so much Jacob! Yeah… I ate most of the cake already… sorry for that! 😊 And the transition is always a bit interesting… I feel so invested in the month’s adventure and then poof… new one! Lol Always feel like a stumble a bit as I start something new! Hehe

  20. Tom Merriman 6 years ago

Thanks for this, Charlie, it was fun, and you got me sploshing real paint around which I haven’t done in almost two hundred years! As for leaving food at the end of a meal – I only do it if I can’t squeeze any more in… and I can squeeze quite a lot in, so that’s saying something!

    • Author

Hehe… I was so thrilled to force you (I mean inspire you!!) to use real paint! Hope you’ll splosh around with me in June as well! 😉

      • Tom Merriman 6 years ago

Well, that depends! Of course, I shall see what I can do!

  21. YesterdayAfter 6 years ago

Oh Charlie no last bite would be left! It would be all gone! 😉 ready for the next adventure! <3 😉

    • Author

Hehe… Yay!! I would be so disappointed if you would leave it! Lol Next adventure begins in less than 3 hours! 😉 Still more than an hour before I can get home to paint something to kick things off!😊 Lol

  22. artandmoondreams 6 years ago

Delightful painting, makes me want to reach into the computer screen and steal that last tasty morsel…yes, I fully believe that eating cake with the reckless abandon of an animal that appreciates cake…is fun to do…of course in the privacy of one’s home and with the curtains drawn maybe, I would not want people to stare…lol. Thank you for sharing a gallery view of all the wonderful treats brought to your dinner and I look forward to seeing what new and wonderful adventures you have in store for us.

    • Author

Thanks so much, Haunani! 😃💕 haha…yeah…true animal cake eating is probably best behind closed doors! Lol So glad you enjoyed the adventure this month! It was really a fun one!! Though I think I gained weight in the process. 😊hehe

Funny little habit, isn’t it? My mom taught me to always leave something on my plate. I always chose the parsley! And I’d forgotten all about this ritual till you reminded me, so thank you.
BTW, if you aren’t going to finish that cake….?

    • Author

Lol… too funny. Awesome move by choosing the parsley. No idea why this was ever considered a good thing though. Pretend there’s parsley on the plate and go ahead and eat this last bite of cake! 😉💕
