Day 3 - World Watercolor Month - Conch Shell On The Beach - Doodlewash

World Watercolor Month – Day 3 – The Lovely Sound Of The Ocean

The first few days of World Watercolor Month™ have been a flurry of activity and it’s exciting to see so many people across the globe participate! I jumped back into the prompts again for today’s post as the thought of sand and seashells was very appealing. So peaceful! It’s been so long since I relaxed on a beach that it was fun to imagine it vicariously via a little painting of a shell. I’m obsessed with conch shells because holding them up to your ear creates a sound much like being near the ocean. I live far from an ocean, so these shells are as close as I get most of the time! Running a global event like this one is a super busy endeavor, but it’s so worth it to see all the beautiful watercolors created in just 31 days. I hope all of you are enjoying it as well and feeling motivated to paint more and more! And, as I’ve mentioned, I have lots of wonderful things to give away thanks to our amazing official sponsors. And today, I have more samples to give at the end of this full post, so please read on!

I’ve had a nice little long weekend here, that continues into tomorrow as July 4th is a rather big celebration here in America. For those of you celebrating, I wish you a wonderful day! And for everyone else, I wish you a wonderful day as well, because really, shouldn’t every day be wonderful? My hope is to make each and every day wonderful in July as we celebrate World Watercolor Month together, by giving all of you the chance to get some awesome new art supplies. I launched a new weekly giveaway today, so be sure to sign up to win! (there’s a new one starting tomorrow as well!)  As many of you may have seen in my About The Doodlewash section below, I’ve been painting regularly in a Hahnemühle watercolor book. I absolutely love it! It lays flat, the paper is fabulous, and I’m proud to happily recommend it! So, I was thrilled that they agreed to be a sponsor of this event! And more thrilled that they were happy to share some amazing paper with all of you.

Today, I have 5 Hahnemühle Cézanne blocks to give away. This is a mould-made, 300gsm, Cold-Press, 9.44″x12.59″, 10 sheet block, for the first 5 artists who comment with “I want Hahnemühle”. There are a few limitations on shipping, so apologies in advance if we can’t ship to your particular country. The way these little posts work is that you can only win a particular prize once, but are free to comment to win any prize you haven’t won yet. As I’m sitting here, just before the 4th of July in America, I can already hear the pops of fireworks in the distance. It’s a wonderful and festive sound that goes well with the most amazing month of the year for watercolor! Thanks to all you who have made a painting each day and added the hashtag #WorldWatercolorMonth. My sincere hope is to raise awareness for the heart of this month which is donating art supplies to The Dreaming Zebra Foundation. This month isn’t for profit of a monetary sense, but the wonderful feeling felt by helping our young future artists who can’t get the art supplies they need. Another way to help is to purchase fun World Watercolor Month souvenirs here.  100% of proceeds go to Dreaming Zebra! Together, we can make a difference in a young artist’s life! And that’s the best part of all about World Watercolor Month! With all of us coming together, we can create a rush of beauty in the world, like the lovely sound of the ocean.

    1. Aww thanks so much, Phil! 😃💕 Yeah… I’ve been using a Hahnemühle watercolor book for the past couple months and loving it. I never have time for a large painting, but one day I’ll try the big boy paper as well. 😊hehe

  5. What a gorgeous portrait of a fighting conch – you did this one justice and beauty. I can nearly hear the ocean.

I shopped yesterday at Home Goods and what did I buy? Pretty wine glasses? Luxurious new towels? Imported gourmet treats? No – I bought a spider conch! And last week I bought a denim blue calcite crystal. What – me not practical? No-o-o-o-o way.
