So we end the Choose Your Own Doodlewash Adventure with the final winning vote of something chubby that’s black and white. In this case, it’s a little doodlewash of a tiny baby panda because I think they’re super cute. I don’t really have a reason deeper than that. It’s been a fun journey this month made even more fun with your votes on which way I should head next and I hope all of you are gearing up for an amazing 2016!

What’s next for Doodlewash in the coming year? Well, as ever, there’s a new adventure starting tomorrow so I hope you’ll stay tuned for that! In typical fashion, I’ve only half decided or I would reveal it to you now. Instead of that reveal, I decided to go ahead and attempt to reveal a little about my process such as it is. So, this post includes a Behind the Scenes peek of all the materials I used for this little panda and the various stages of my doodlewashing. (It’s also a birthday request from my good friend and talented fellow doodlewasher, Jodi McKinney over at Life In Between. Happy Birthday, Jodi!!)

This was a bit more difficult to do than I imagined and since I move so quickly it often hard to stop and take photos. Feel free to let me know your thoughts about whether or not you find this interesting and useful! Or if there’s something else you’d like to see, within reason, of course. I didn’t do a video because I didn’t have time to edit it down to a time lapse properly and watching me doodlewash for 45 minutes isn’t really that entertaining… unless I’ve had too much wine.

Coming up next will be the return of some silly stories and more random little doodlewashes from me with an occasional behind the scenes peek. But even better, more doodlewashes from super talented guest artists sketching all around the globe. I love this doodlewashing community we’ve created together and I’m excited to see where we’ll all take it next! I hope you’ll join me for the coming year ahead and thanks again for all of your support! I hope you’ll DO & then DO some more – just keep doodling my friends! Happy 2016 you beautiful people you!

  1. This is fantastic, Charlie! Thank you for taking the time to this! I think you can learn so much watching others and trying it yourself! Looking forward to tomorrow!! ❤️

      1. Well done, friend. Me too, though the coffee I drank at 9pm to do that kept me up a bit longer than I intended. I hope you have a great 2016 and I look forward to seeing where you doodlewashing takes you.

  2. OH CHARLIE O!!!! Thank you for the FABULOUS Birthday gift! Mwah! xoxo I am getting ready for company to arrive, but saw your post and had to write and thank you and tell you how amazing it is and how amazing you are! What a wonderful friend and artist and person you are! I LOVE the panda and you did the process so well! Can’t wait for potential videos. OOOOO I am so excited! HAPPY New Year buddy! Big Panda Bear Hugs!!!

    1. You’re so sweet, Jodi!! ❤️😃Hehe!! So happy you liked it!! I had people coming over too, so sort of had to post and run!! 😊 I’m going to try a video at some point, but this year, but may take me awhile to get to it. Hope you had an amazing birthday! And are having an awesome start to 2016!! 🎉😃😃

      1. You are the sweet one Charlie O!!! We had a wonderful time – slow start this morning – LOL! Happy New Year! Look forward to enjoying it with you and art – and hopefully a visit from you and Philippe to MARS!!! I’m not letting up 🙂

  3. Happy New Year Charlie! 🌟🎆🎉
Thank you for your process post today, what a great gift to all of us and Jodi. The little panda, looks as though he is going to jump off the page.
Also, thanks for the list of supplies!
We are now in the count down for our next year of creative fun!

  4. Charlie, you’ve made my day! That’s, for me, the perfect way to start the new year! I love baby pandas and have them on top of my favourite cutie list. Now, I have 2 questions for you: did you get to see this little cutie for real? Are there more cuties like this to come in future on this blog? Have a very nice 2016!

    1. Yay!! So happy I started your New Year off right!! I’ve always thought these guys were super cute, but sadly didn’t get to see one in person yesterday so worked from a photo. And yes! Definitely more cute little animals coming as I love to doodlewash them! Hope you’re having a wonderful 2016 so far my friend!! 😃

  5. Oh, this is such a cool post, Charlie! Would love to know how you technically did it – if you don’t mind sharing! The baby panda is oh, soooo ADORABLE too! 💕💖💕 Can’t wait to see what great doodlewashes you will do in 2016! You are AMAZING Charlie you know! 😄🎉🌟

    1. Thanks Jill! And you’re too sweet!! 😊💕😃Glad you liked it! I’m never sure how to even speak to technique because I sort of just go for it and it’s kind of random. Not sure I even pay close enough attention to what I do. I think the problem is that I’m still learning (only been painting 6 months! Hehe😊) and a newbie myself so still looking for a way of approaching it I like. I think a video would be the easiest at this point. Then you could just see how random I am and whether it’s at all inspiring! Lol 😉

  6. This is great! Soo adorable and it’s great to watch him coming together in the slide show. I enjoyed the voting and it’s a shame that’s over – were we not picking the right ones for you? 😉 – but at least it means I can finally leave that room I’ve been in since the start of December, and I look forward to the next jolly jaunt. 2016 looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun!

“…watching me doodlewash for 45 minutes isn’t really that entertaining… unless I’ve had too much wine.” Well, in that case, we must get you wine, and lots of it!

    1. Hehe! The voting was fun! I liked it, but maybe it was holidays because the votes seemed to be decreasing like people were getting tired of it. 😊 And you know I have to change it up every month… but I’m thinking of doing something a little more prolonged next. And yes on the wine! Please send a case of the best Margaux Bordeaux you can find and I’ll start the video! Lol 😉👍🏻

      1. Yes, it was a lot of fun, or maybe I was just high on the power trip of having a say in what you painted. I’m positive any decline was down to the season (lots of bloggers have gone silent – I’m so glad that you’ve carried on throughout, I’d have felt quite lonely otherwise!)

Anyway, always [genuinely!] exciting when you start a new adventure! Can’t wait!

I’ll see what I can do regarding the wine – they might have to come in of a drawing! 😉

  7. Oh that adorable panda! He’s the perfect ending to December and the year. I really like your timed video, so great to see your process. Super bonus! Hope you had a fun new year’s celebration!

  8. Love this peek into your process. You do work quickly, and you don’t second guess yourself. That confidence shows in the finished product because you successfully capture your subject without over working it.
