Happy Vanilla Cupcake Day! I have no idea the origin of this day, but I love these rather hyper-specific holidays. This one works for me as I’m a huge fan of vanilla cupcakes, preferring them even over the chocolate version. This is only the second cupcake I’ve ever tried to paint, however, and I have to say that painting them is super difficult and I have no idea why. I adore eating them, but trying to make one look interesting perplexes me. Probably because I’d rather just be eating them. Vanilla is also a term often used to describe something that has no special or extra features. Something ordinary or standard. Yet, I’ve always loved the simplest of desserts, with a touch of vanilla, and I think that they’re marvelous. So, today I happily celebrate the simple joy of a little vanilla cupcake.
As a kid, I was teased for my love of vanilla desserts and told they’re too boring. I would always choose a simple vanilla ice cream cone over a chocolate one. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not totally insane. I do, of course, love chocolate. But, there was something incredibly satisfying and comforting about the humble vanilla ice cream cone. Going to weddings often made me anxious as I don’t love crowds and prefer one-on-one company, but I loved the cake! Well, sometimes the dancing if there was enough alcohol served to properly remove my inhibitions. I enjoyed the cake so much, that going to a wedding always made me incredibly excited and happy. Well, for it to actually be over, so I could run to enjoy a slice of cake.
As ever, I’m not sure the point of anything I’m currently typing. I just say what comes to my mind and I’m still running on very little sleep. If I had an actual point to this post, I guess it would be that it’s often possible to take simple joys for granted. A favorite little bit of cake can do wonders for the soul. When you’re eating a cupcake it’s actually really hard to think about anything else. For the briefest of moments the craziness of the world disappears in a sugary rush. Nothing else matters for that blissful bit of time and each bite feels like a celebration. So maybe that’s why this tiny treat managed to earn its own special day. No extra frills and features to get in the way. Just the pure enjoyment of biting into a little vanilla cupcake.

Charlie, your cupcake is do delectable – I wish I could gobble this up! You painted it perfectly. Vanilla is a regal flavor – how can anyone not adore vanilla extract added to French toast, waffles, and pancakes, all desserts, soda (which I almost never drink but love with a squirt of vanilla) – it’s just a wonderful flavor.
I love chocolate cupcakes or cake with buttercream frosting which is a butter and sugar confection with vanilla extract flavoring, whipped into a spreadable mixture to glop over the cupcake. I think buttercream frosting is on your vanilla cupcake.
Or skip the cupcake and just eat the buttercream frosting out of the bowl. Yum yum yum.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕 Hehe… yep! It’s buttercream and I fully support the idea of just eating it right out of the bowl!! LOL Sooooo good!!
You did a great job painting Vanilla! And I must admit, I would totally take a vanilla cupcake over chocolate also – and a vanilla soft serve ice cream cone over chocolate every day of the week. I adore chocolate, but for cake and ice cream – it is vanilla all the way for me too! I love how you tied it all back to simple pleasures. Glad you are finding some to appreciate. 🙂
Thanks, Jodi! 😃💕 Yay! hehe… glad I’m not alone. There’s just something so good about a little bit of vanilla cake.
I am shielding my eyes. I halfway through a 16 day cleanse before a medical checkup (I like to prepare for my exams). Your delicious drawings are tempting me! I have a plan for the 19th, the day of the test, which includes tons of whipped peanut cream on a gluten free choco banana nut cake. Okay? I’m unleashing in the kitchen.
Oh no!! Look away then!! LOL 💕 Hope the test goes fine and I’ll be thinking of you on the 19th… and a bit jealous by the sounds of it!! hehe
Your paintings often make me hungry and your blog posts teach me about all manner of obscure celebration days.
Hehe… thanks, Laura! 😃💕 Glad you like these!! There is a day for everything!! I love it!! Lol
I love your stories. They give me brief glimpses into your life. Thank you for sharing. Also, the drawing is amazing and makes me very hungry. Lol. 😊😊😊😊
Aww thanks so much, Trav! 😃 Yay if I made ya hungry… that’s always a great compliment!
All the time Charlie. Lol
Vanilla Cup Cakes are the Tastiest. No frills and thrills on it. Just plain original cake.
I used to call my Relationship with my Friend a Vanilla Friendship.
Hehe! I love that!! Simple can be sooo much better sometimes! 😉💕
Yes. Simple and Sweet.
What a great cake, original, and always received gratefully yum😋
Thanks, Rebecca!! 😃💕 I have like zero will power around a plate full of these! Soooo good!!
Charlie I can’t wait for the knickerbocker glory day xx
I’m sure that day must come at some point! 💕
I think every day ought to be Vanilla Cupcake Day, no? I mean, that’s like pitching a Citrus Polos day 😉 (haven’t mentioned those beauties for a while!) Lovely stuff, you made a difficult doodlewash look easy, as usual. Hmm, the texture of the cake… it’s stirring up temptation for a simple cuppa and cupcake – a match made in heaven!
Hehe… thanks, Jacob! 😃 every day should be… you’re so right! And Citrus Polo day would just be a terrible tease though, wouldn’t it?! Lol
True… until they bring them back, of course. Fingers crossed! Then you can try them, and be inevitably disappointed! 😉
