As is often the case in this type of doodlewash adventure, I realize there’s a day to celebrate just about anything, including a vitamin. This day celebrates the anniversary of that great day in 1932 when two doctors at the University of Pittsburgh first isolated this vital nutrient. Sure, people already knew that eating lots of citrus fruits and fresh greens warded off their scurvy, but now they finally knew why! Typically, an orange is used to illustrate this type of thing, but red peppers pack a bigger Vitamin C punch with nearly three times more of the stuff than an orange.
I was tempted to celebrate World Rat Day, but I figured it was good to branch out and try something other than animals. Also, I only had 25 minutes. And Philippe and I were discussing eating healthier, so this day seems timely to celebrate. Actually, we were making a resolution to exercise more. This is something normally done and then forgotten about in January as everyone knows that it’s impossible to be truly motivated when still wearing sweaters and coats to hide the winter’s trangressions. As we move into spring and the layers come off, it becomes shockingly clear that something must be done quick before summer clothes come to reveal more skin and leave any doubt whatsoever.
Although Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, won’t make you thin, it will help boost your immune system and protect you against cardiovasicular disease, eye disease and even better, skin wrinkling. This is one of the reasons why in the United States, the supplement industry is over $38 billion. All doctors will say, however, that getting your nutrients from actual food is best whenever possible. So grab a pepper and chow down today! Just be sure not to cook it as you’ll totally kill the Vitamin C. Yeah, “healthy” is pretty much a buzz kill, but I guess it’s always better than the alternative.
Join me any and all days you like during April by celebrating a National or International Day with a doodlewash! Tag your image #doodlewashaday and I’ll feature everyone who played along on doodlewash.com at the end of the month!

Your brightly colored peppers look delicious, and I didn’t realize that cooking them depleted the vitamin C. Yes, healthy can be a buzzkill, but it is better than scurvy and it balances out chocolate mousse, right? 😉
Exactly!! Nobody wants scurvy! And chocolate mousse is an important part of any diet. Thanks so much Carol! 😃💕
Perfectly Pretty Powerfully Potent Peppers – full of vitamin C (ok – I stretched it a bit with the Ps LOL!) But they are awesome and such a great representation of this important vitamin. I know what you mean about the layers coming off. Hubby and I are heading to Punta Cana in a few weeks – YIKES! Joining the celebration Wednesday – look out! haha!
Hehe…thanks Jodi! 😃💕 Glad you liked this. Yeah… I love layers!! I hate to see them go! Lol And uh-oh…I’ve been duly warned. Hehe…can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve! 😊
Awesome quick peppers! The textures are perfect. I too am rather disappointed (and alarmed) to hear that cooking the things kills the Vitamin C, sigh. Thankfully there are many alternatives – citrus fruits, for example. I wonder if the hallowed Citrus Polos were good for Vitamin C?
This fitness thing, eh. Harrowing. Running is fun – you should go running round the block! It’s more challenging but (probably) less embarrassing if you go as a pair. I wouldn’t know, as no-one will go with me! 😛
Thanks Jacob! 😃Yeah…I only run when chased and so it’s really just a matter of finding someone to chase me properly, which I’ve not been able to do. I’ll just eat my raw peppers instead I guess. Exercise is just too much to bear. Lol
Haha, I’m surprised you don’t have a stampede of doodlewash fans chasing you daily!
yeah… I’m not cool enough to have those kind of fans! lol
One day, I’m sure! 😉
Your peppers look edible, Charlie! 😃 I got myself a fit bit and it has helped motivate me to walk more until I came down with this nasty cold. Must eat more peppers! Lol! 🌶🌶🌶
Thanks Jill! 💕😃 Fit bits are cool! But colds aren’t. Ugh…so sorry to hear that. Eat your peppers my friend and get well soon!! 😉❤️
Thanks Charlie! 💖
Yummy looking peppers! Healthy eh.😄 We are having a go at that at this house too. Bathing suit season is just around the corner. Aaahhhh!!!
Thanks Susan!! 😃💕 Ugh… I’ve never had a swimsuit body… I guess that’s what the charts mean when they tell me I’m a “winter.” Hehe
Swim suits are a form of torture!!
Agreed!! Lol
RATS! I wish you had celebrated the much maligned critters. At least I hope you fed them the scrumptious looking peppers.
I definitely would have! But rats were still celebrated! That’s the beautify of inviting folks along for the adventure! Check this out:

Cool. thanks for introducing me to I-horse!!!! I subscribed
Awesome!! You won’t be disappointed! 😉👍🏻
Love it!
So clever! I would have pulled my hair out trying to convey that! Peppers are also great to paint…yours look delicious! 💜
Thanks! Some of these days are difficult to figure out what to do! Hehe…glad you liked my peppers! 😉💕😃
Beautiful painting, they look good enough to eat…love the saturated colors.
Thanks Haunani!! 😃💕I love it when I get to play with bright colors! Hehe…glad you like it!
Beautiful painting and a great message. I’m a firm believer in healthy eating and exercise. Of course that’s easy to do in AZ and WI when the weather is good.
Thanks Teri! 😃💕 Yeah…no excuses in that climate I guess! Hehe… It’s always hard here because winter is almost a form of human hibernation. Difficult to get back into the swing of things! Hehe
I know because I grew up in northern Wisconsin. I think that’s why I enjoy the nice weather so much.
Hehe loved the source of vitamin C it turned out really awesome Charlie 👍🏼😍
Thanks so much Snehal! 😃💕 It’s been fun to break out and try something other than animals again. Hehe
Gorgeous color and beautifully Doodlewashed, I love red peppers! I’ll be eating one tomorrow with avocado.
Thanks for all the cool info Charlie.
Thanks Sharon!! 😃💕 I love red peppers too! Actually more than oranges so I’m not sure what that says about me! Hehe… Hope you enjoy yours today! 😉
Love peppers! My daughter likes them raw.. And I’ve started enjoying them raw too. I’m trying to walk 10,000 steps a day but I’ve not been consistent.. My favorite form of exercise is yoga.. Hehe.. Your peppers really look delicious!! 😘
Thanks Kari!! 😃💕 I love them raw…there’s some sweeter snack version that’s good too. And yes to yoga! That’s my favorite as well though it’s been a long time since I’ve done it. 😊 I used to do Bikram hot yoga which is awesome and insanely effective! Hehe
I have a feeling my rat would love your peppers. I love them too!! 25 minutes must be a record, even for you. Beautiful shiny peppers, fabulous colours. As I don’t have any I’m going to go and munch some fruit immediately!
Hehe!! Thanks! 😃💕 Yeah… this one was fast and furious, but I also kept it small so that helped! Your rat would love these!! Hehe…your rat was amazing!😍
Vitamin c day…..everyday for me is a vit c day, I love the stuff, mainly in the fruit form. Great doodlewash, in super quick time Charlie.
So yummy and so pretty – and so healthy – now how did that happen?
Great art, Charlie.
Thanks so much, Sharon! 😃💕 I love how colorful peppers are, and to be tasty as well is an awesome bonus! Hehe
Beautiful peppers Charlie, a favorite around here. Oh yes, sweater removal, yikes I have it too, that is too much of myself. Motivation time! Pass the peppers please.
Haha! Peppers all around please! Thanks Cathe! 😃💕 Yeah I took hibernation to a whole new level this winter and so I might be eating only peppers until summer. 😊lol
I’m sure we all have the taking-off-the-layers body blues. I love peppers, but of course I like to fry them…still I’m getting my vitamin C, right? (K)
Yep, Kerfe! There’s still Vitamin C in the cooked version…just quite a bit less. I think if life were fair then frying things would ADD nutrition!! I love anything fried! 😊
Me too. And add some bacon if possible!
Aren’t peppers wonderful things to draw! Lovely.
Thanks, Anne! 😃💕They are fun! This is the first time I’ve ever drawn and doodlewashed them! Hehe… Glad you liked them!
I love the painting! So simple!
Aww thanks! Appreciate it! 😃
Lookin’ scrumptious, Charlie! Raw peppers don’t like me…my stomach can’t handle them that way. Now, when prepared as the Italians do for antipasti — scorched over the gas flame, peeled, seeds removed and preserved in beautiful olive oil for six months or more…yummy! That removes the toxins and I survive! LOL. We’re gearing up for more layers of clothing down here.
Thanks Janina! 😃💕I fully approve of Italian-style… yum!! And I’m jealous that you’re heading back into layers of clothing… these food sketches aren’t helping my spring/summer diet! 😊lol
I have no doubt you are one of those people with a high metabolic rate!
Usually… slowing down a bit with age though. Ugh! lol
Hmmm…age…you’re still a baby! Maybe a few more walks with Phineas…?! 😉
lol… thanks for saying that! I love hearing that I’m still young on my birthday! hehe!! Yay!!
Your birthday? Eh, what…today? My late mother’s was the 15th April. She was so feisty and aggressive and a pain in the arse, can’t picture you like that!! 😉
I guess I can be a pain sometimes… but not in an aggressive way! lol My birthday was on April 13th! My mom’s is on April 11th… I was a belated birthday gift I guess. lol
