Today marks the last day of September and the final day of this month’s Simple Pleasures challenge. Thanks so much to everyone who played along this month and I hope you’ll join us for the October watercolor challenge as well! I’m running a bit late today, and in my rush, I thought the prompt was head in the clouds, which is why we have this quickly sketched giraffe. But truly, watching clouds float by means roughly the same thing. It’s that amazing feeling when you sort of lose all sense of time and the stress of the world disappears into a deep blue sky. As a kid, I spent most of that time deciding just which animal those clouds resembled most. There were giant floating squirrels, ducks, and elephants in my imagination and it made the looking upward seem like a truly wondrous experience indeed. These days, nothing has really changed. I still find myself doing the same thing. And my head is definitely in the clouds most of the time, as I have so many dreams filling my mind that it’s often difficult to concentrate.

One of my dreams is already coming true and that’s the lovely artist community that’s forming right here on Doodlewash! I have so many grand plans for what’s coming next, and many of those features will be showing up within the next several weeks, just in time for the holidays! So, if you haven’t jumped in yet, then you really should log in and join the fun (and start earning DO Points for your participation… trust me, you’ll really want them soon!!). As for the holidays, if you look around at retail shops, you’ll already see that Christmas decorations are popping up right next to Halloween skulls. It’s bizarre and unsettling. I instead, prefer to take these final months of the year, one step and one holiday at a time. That’s the beauty of being a dreamer. Life can be spinning at a frenetic pace around you and yet the world can still seem slow and breezy. A fabulous buffet of opportunities await. There’s always time.

So, I hope you’re enjoying a fabulous weekend and taking a bit of time to dream. It’s entirely possible to do anything you set your mind to doing. I get so stupidly distraction all of the time, and yet still manage to get a ton of things done. Truly, I’m living proof that it’s possible. If I can show up to paint every day, then literally anyone can do it! I’m a mess and not particularly organized at all. I run on pure adrenaline and dreams. It’s a fuel that can be a little erratic, but somehow always manages to come through and make things happen in the end. And honestly, it’s just really fun! I see life as a big joy ride. You roughly imagine the direction you want to head, hop aboard, and just let the road take you where it wants. It’s way more fun to live life as though it’s the dream itself. So, that’s where you’ll always find me. I’ve always been that little kid talking about all the amazing things he’s going to do while the adults just chuckle and nod. That boy in the corner who, while everyone was doing only what they felt they should do, was happily dreaming and watching clouds float by.

  1. Not quite taking time to dream but certainly have done that often… Not so much with clouds as waves. Getting lost in waves, whether in the water or on the shore. Charlie this is going to be a great community and your ground of being sets the pace. I am normally not a joiner like this, but tentative, but I’ve liked hat you’ve said all along and so I jumped in alongside you! xoxo

    1. Awww Kate! Thanks so much! 😃💕 I so thrilled to hear you say that! I’m not a joiner either, but I think it’s because the communities that get made are never inclusive enough. I know that together, we can make one that’s truly unique and wonderful!!

  2. Really really love your giraffe! I have a 3 foot tall or more, concrete giraffe that was a surprise at an old antique store. Drug the sweet thing home and she’s next to the fireplace. She’s beat up and paint is old and most has fallen off but how I love her. She has a big bow around her neck. Because I bought that giraffe – friends and family believe that I need MORE giraffes. 🙂 So now the living room is filling up. So fun!

  3. It must be those mesmerizing eyes or maybe the gentle expression of these creatures whose every limb is stretched about as far as possible that makes me want to cuddle a giraffe. Of course there’s the problem of how to scrunch up each of those limbs and how to wrap an arm around the neck. How creative of you to interpret the prompt this way. From one head-in-the-cloud person to another – enjoy the view!
