For our prompt of “Giraffe” today, I made a sketch of a baby giraffe discovering a butterfly. Though we’re heading into autumn now, I still see lots of butterflies, which always makes me happy. They’re a rather common sighting where I live, yet I’m still mesmerized by their beauty each time one flutters by me. It’s as though it’s the first time I’ve ever seen one each and every time. I love that feeling. As I get older, it becomes harder to find real surprises in life, but sometimes, it’s the simplest things that can still create that youthful sense of wonder and delight. This morning, I was taking my pup Elliott out and while he was sniffing the ground reading the latest news, I was admiring the sunrise. The pinks, yellows, and blues swirling on the horizon were so beautiful and peaceful. For just a moment, I forgot all about the day’s looming deadlines and that long list of things I still had to accomplish. I simply relished in the moment and let time pass slowly. Elliott eventually looked up and followed my gaze and the two of us stood there together for a brief time, just watching the show.
I’m thrilled that summer is finally ending as it’s truly my least favorite season. Beyond the excessive heat, I don’t stay up late enough to appreciate the endless days and find myself going to bed while it’s still light outside. I adore the shorter fall days as they seem to be timed precisely to my own biological clock. Also, the cooler weather and gorgeous autumn leaves make this season truly magical. As a kid, this was also my favorite time of year. True, it was also the time when I had to go back to school, but since I’ve always been a huge nerd, that was awesome as well! And to this day, when I see a tree that’s bursting with orange against a deep blue, cloudless sky it takes my breath away. I find this particular time of year very inspiring, even though I tend to limit taking on any extra projects so I can simply enjoy the season.
I’m thrilled to spend time watching fun Halloween movies with Philippe as Elliott tries to distract us with one of his toys. Every once in awhile, Elliott will stop and watch whatever is on the screen along with us, but this is always followed by a heavy sigh. He’s just not that interested in television. Indeed, given a choice, I think Elliott would prefer to be outside most of the time and we indulge him in that as much as possible. I too adore being outdoors this time of year and any excuse to admire the fall foliage and feel the slight chill in the air is a welcome occurrence. We got Elliott a cute bandana to wear, but his penchant for nudity means that he tries to remove it within a few minutes. A Halloween costume of any kind is definitely out of the question. But, I’m excited for the days ahead and taking walks to watch the world around me explode into dazzling colors. Simply enjoying the beauty of nature is all I really need to re-experience that nostalgic childhood feeling of wide-eyed wonder!

Adorable!
Thanks so much, Jane! 😃💕
I do love Fall, but I miss waking up to the light. Autumn seems like a night-time season to me. What can be dreary in the day takes on a mystery when dusk falls. One of the reasons I started looking up trivia to go with my paintings is that it makes me think about the everyday things more closely — there’s so much going on under the visual appearance that is truly marvelous.
Yeah, it’s definitely a night-time season… and winter is even more so here! And, yep, it’s always so fun to discover more things. Though, I have to admit to loving trivia so much, I had to relearn things I forget! 😉hehe
Hey Charlie I love the fall too especially in this edge of desert city — cold nights and hot days all summer. Right now it took a plunge and I did my annual heat register blow out to get rid of dust that does not manage to get picked up weekly with the dust cloth. Sure felt good to have that heat in here.
I also go to sleep early somewhere between 8 and 9 and am up at five or four even. The moon can rise by itself without me telling it how.
I love that butterfly!
Thanks so much, Linda! 😃💕 Sounds like you’ve been very productive! We already have to sweep our back deck from blowing leaves and they haven’t even changed color yet!
Adorable, Charlie! I miss those Autumn colors but do not miss the cold and snow that follow the beautiful days of Fall!
Thanks so much, Mary! 😃💕 Yeah, I always get tired of the winter cold and start dreaming of spring. But after this insanely hot summer, I think I might prefer winter after all!
We’ve had a scorcher of a summer down here too and nothing has changed yet temperature wise. I am so ready for a cool breeze!!!
Hey Charlie! Love this prompt! Being a vertically challenged sorta girl, who is forever looking up at most things, giraffes 🦒 challenged me the most till our Animal Park made a giraffe feeding landing. Now you can give them a giraffe treat, and have them wrap that long appendage-like tongue around your hand! Next stop, hand washing station and hand sanitizer 😆🤣😄
I also love Fall best! Cooler nights (at our edge of the World anyway) and who doesn’t love a light sweater!💁♀️ Id love the foliage to change color here too, just like in Maine, but I’ll settle for a sweater😆
Thanks so much! 😃💕 The Paris zoo has a area like that where you can be eye to eye with a giraffe. I’m tall, but not quite that tall! hehe And yay for sweaters… yeah… I have a closet full of them just ready for the cooler weather!
Meanwhile, in South Texas, we’re batting near 100*F all this week. 🌞🌞🌞 So the only color changes we see is scorched Earth and plants. 😭😭😭
Hola, mi amigo, Charlie! Such a cute painting! I LOVE giraffes! The other day I was working on my plants when I had an unexpected visitor. A hummingbird! I felt so bad for the little guy because the blooms on my plants have been savagely scorched from the Sun and heat. He flew away hungry. In Spanish, a hummingbird is a colibrí.
You made me laugh about Elliott’s nudist tendencies. Monster loved letting everything fly free also. 😂😂😂 He used to love laying half on his bed and half on the floor and rubbing his lower half on the floor back and forth. I guess it felt good to repeatedly rub his jingle jangles across the floor because he would throw his head back and savor the moment. 😂😂😂😂 I’m laughing hysterically, by the way. My mother called it his “new trick.” 😂😂😂
My neighbor has a pitbull mix named Apollo. He’s really sweet and I keep trying to get her to dress him up like a cowboy for Halloween. I couldn’t get Monster to wear a collar muchless a costume. But I sure do miss my little boy.
Much love to you, my sweet friend. 💜💜💜
Hola, mi amiga! 😃💕 We had a hummingbird visit us the other day as well! He was not happy that we didn’t have flowers or a feeder though. And dogs have it the best! Humans can’t rub their jingle jangles that openly without causing a stir! lol Yeah, I’m a bit jealous of those dogs that are okay with costumes… Elliott would look so awesome, but it’s just not his thing. Much love to you! ❤️
Love your painting – and agree with you, as Fall is my favorite season, too! I love the rich colors of Fall! And the cooler weather. It’s glorious to take a few moments to watch a sunrise or sunset….
Thanks so much, Mary! 😃💕 Yeah, between the cooler weather and the gorgeous colors, fall is definitely my favorite season!!
Like you , I love the autumn Charlie. Because the time I start work I only get to see sunrise at the weekend now. Your giraffe is great.
Thanks so much, Gary! 😃💕 Yeah, soon it will be going to work and coming home in the dark here. I kind of like that as it never seems like I’m missing a beautiful day since I haven’t had the chance to see it yet. hehe
