Written by For our art challenge prompt of dinner today, well, we haven’t eaten it yet as we had a rather large lunch. Though we didn’t attend a Memorial Day gathering, we went out and had a rather large lunch of tacos and chips. At this point this post could easily be entitled “Wine For Dinner” as I’m still not hungry at all. That, of course, is not going to be the case, as that would be sad and irresponsible, but dinner will be delayed just a bit today while our stomachs catch up. It was unseasonably hot here today as well. Spring lasted for barely a couple of weeks before the raging heat of summer decided to show up. So a bit of cold white wine is on the menu this evening, along with some ice cold water. For this sketch, I just made a quick outline of a glass and tried heading in with only watercolor to see what might happen next. I usually also sketch the shapes that I see in the liquid so I wanted to try just painting them in as I went along. It’s always fun to play and try something new and that’s my goal as we head into June and then begin our amazing World Watercolor Month celebration in July!
The day’s heat wave has waned just a bit so we’ve wandered outdoors now and I’m sitting on the terrace completing this post. There are birds chirping, rather loudly actually, and doing their bird things in the background and the sun is slowly lowering itself in the sky. It’s really quite a lovely end to what has been a very nice long three day weekend. We spent a lot of time with friends this weekend and that always fills me with joy. Adult lives can get much more difficult to schedule and so we don’t often get to see many of our friends very often. I’ve taken to trying to schedule the next meet up during the very one we’re enjoying, just to be sure that months don’t pass before we see each other again. But no matter how much time has transpired, it’s always like no time has passed at all. That’s the beauty of having good friends. There’s really no amount of time or distance that can change the feelings that you have for them.
So, as I end my evening with my usual little daily ramble, I’m feeling quite happy and content. Sure, I managed to accomplish nearly nothing on my To-Do list this weekend, but perfectly managed to accomplish everything that actually matters. That said, yes, I’ll start the week roughly a day behind when it comes to some things, but feel like I’m miles ahead emotionally. I’m just feeling very lucky and happy in this moment. Thrilled to have great friends here that visit me, and equally thrilled to have great friends like many of you that I’ve still yet to visit. It would be wonderful to meet all of you one day! Perhaps there will be a Doodlewash meetup at some point in the future. In the meantime, I’m just thrilled that you show up right here and connect with me on these little posts. I don’t always have a lot to say, but I show up with heart and tell you whatever it is that comes to mind. Tonight, it’s just a general thank you for being you and being there to encourage me each and every day. Even on a simple days like this one, when I don’t have much more to report on other than an incredible sense of happiness and a bit of wine with dinner.

Love your wine glass. Your shapes are probably totally non-objective, but I see a man in a baseball cap, a rabbit and a moose, lol. We spent the day driving 100 miles along the Columbia River on the Oregon and back on the Washington side – beautiful scenery, high-70’s weather and no sense of a deadline. I hope your day was as enjoyable as ours!

To start your work week a day behind but a mile ahead emotionally is a truly wonderful accomplishment. And this glass of wine is very pretty, you did a great job catching the subtle colors and reflections. (I can’t say anything else about wine of any flavor or color, as I love the way it looks and smells but hate its taste. Same for beer or hard liquor – just pass me the glass of water, please. I do like some of the labels, however.)

Usually Pinot Grigio, but either will do as long as it’s very dry without much sweet. 😉 hehe

It was another sizzling day here in Wisconsin. I didn’t have to water gardens today since I did yesterday, so I just lazed about most of the day, and took pictures of my iris which are just coming into bloom. Since I no longer work, I have no real need for a day off, but holidays still feel like a free day. Maybe it is the lack of mail? Anyway, have a good short week!

It’s great isn’t it. You have represented a clear glas, and yet only about 5% is clear ie white paper. The human eye (and brain) is a marvellous thing!
hehe… isn’t it? Thanks, Rod! 😃💕 Yeah, that’s my favorite bit about watercolor. It’s fun to give the illusion of reality. I tend to overwork everything on purpose to get a more 3D effect, but it’s all still a lovely ruse. Fun!

Very nice decanters! How cool is making your own wine? I live less than 30 minutes from wine country (Napa Valley) and I live right across the street from Sutter Homes Vineyards but I can’t imagine ever making my own wine.
