Winter Boots

For today’s prompt we have a pair of women’s boots, not my own boots, simply because I wanted a bit of color. I’m currently at my mom’s house in Texas and there’s no Wifi available, making posting a bit of a challenge. The town is so small that even my cell phone signal is weak here. But if I sit in just the right spot, I can usually manage enough signal to make a post. The weather here is rainy and cold, so even though there isn’t snow, warm boots wouldn’t be out of the question. I love boots like these with a furry lining as they’re really comfortable. That said, I’m notorious for not wearing the appropriate footwear in cold weather. The warmer the footwear, the less fashionable it seems to become. Women seem to have cuter options, so that’s why I went with this version for today’s post. Granted, when standing in a foot of snow, nobody can see your feet anyway, so I guess it really doesn’t matter what you wear.

The only pair of boots I own were purchased when I was part of a movie production that was being shot in Montreal, Canada. Each visit there seemed colder than the next and there was always snow on the ground. This turned out to be ideal, as we were shooting a Christmas movie, but my feet nearly froze off while scouting locations on the first trip. I promptly invested in a pair of warm boots for the remaining trips. That was over two years ago, though, and I’ve never worn them since.

As an adult, my favorite part of a snowy winter is being trapped indoors sitting next to the fireplace. I love being snowed in and boots are not required to enjoy the experience. Just a little bit of wine and my watercolors will do nicely. No need to feel guilty about not going out in the world to run productive errands. So I guess you could say that snow days are still rather magical for me now, just in a very different kind of way. But perhaps this year, during the first snowfall, I’ll try venturing out into the world. Enjoying it like a kid again, bundled up in a big puffy coat, hat, and gloves. Experiencing the joy of a winter wonderland, while thoroughly thankful to be wearing a long neglected pair of warm winter boots.

No escape from the cold! But at least you’re cosy inside. Interestingly, I always think men’s shoes and boots have nicer styles…
Enjoy your visit with your mom. (K)

If I’d had a pair of boots as gorgeous as these, maybe I wouldn’t have minded wearing them. All I remember is galoshes – big, ugly, black rubber things that were hard to put on and take off. I’d tromp to school with them making every step a tricky maneuver and clomp home in similar peril. Winter in New Jersey – cold, snowy, icy, slippery, sleety, slushy – did I say freezing cold? Had so much fun on sleds and making snowmen, and snow angels on fresh snowfall, but being outside in winter more than ten minutes was cold, baby, cold.

Now I’m a California gal. Worst weather my sons ever had to navigate was occasional rain and wild Santa Ana winds. No snow for my babies, unless we went to the mountains. Sixty degrees out and our teeth are chattering.

Thanks for another fun memory, Charlie.

Thanks, Sharon!! 😃💕 Yeah, I love the freezing snow, even though as an adult I hate to drive in it! Definitely don’t have to worry about that in Cali though. 😉

I think it’s always hard to find a comfy pair of boots to wear but these look cool and comfortable! Enjoy you visit, Charlie! 💚❤️💚🎄😄

Thanks so much, Jill! 😃💕 The one pair I own look pretty good, but not sure they’re as warm as they should be. 😊But the warm ones were too ugly! Lol

  4. I agree that when there is a foot of snow outside*, it is best to wear slippers, and stay inside*.

  5. Looks like an ice cream 👼😋

“want a bit of color” – reminds me of the pink socks in Bird Cage, lol. Enjoy visiting your mom.
