Day 27 - Winter Scarf Weather Pink Scarf on White Background

Winter Scarf Weather

Today’s prompt is scarf, so I created this super quick 2 color doodlewash of one. I don’t actually own a pink scarf like this, I simply wanted to play with my new Mission Gold Permanent Rose color, combined here with just a touch of Sennelier Payne’s Grey. Pink is usually considered a girl’s color, but looking at this now, I think I’d rather like a scarf in this particular shade. Winter can be so gray and dull, so a shock of pink is just the sort of thing that could help spice things up a bit. It’s actually not really scarf weather here at all this week as it’s decided instead to be unseasonably warm. I own many scarves, because I like the look, but it has to be incredibly cold for me to bother with them. I run warm and so a lovely fashion accessory quickly becomes a sweaty chokehold if I’m not careful.

Yesterday as we were shopping, it was clear that the stores hadn’t been alerted to the warmer weather. They all had the heaters up full blast and while we were shopping for shoes, and I felt like I was going to pass out. One of the things I love most about winter is the fashion. The many layers of clothes you get to wear are fantastic when it’s cold enough for me to be able to wear them. Not only does it hide most of the holiday gluttony, it’s just more interesting than summer shorts and t-shirts. I’ve a closet full of new winter sweaters I purchased when we were in Paris last month and they’re just hanging there mocking me at the moment.  Next week, however, they’re promising colder temperatures, so they’ll be put to their proper use soon. And I’ll be grumbling about the cold just like everyone else as though I didn’t just wish for it.

I’m off work this week, so I’m enjoying the time to do mostly nothing at all. There are millions of sensible things I should be doing around the house, but I lack the motivation to do any of them. So, even though the weather isn’t really that cold, I’m enjoying this winter break. It’s been ages since I’ve taken the time to waste time and it feels rather fabulous. I guess if I knew how to knit, I could be knitting myself a scarf right now, but since I’ve no idea how to do that, I’m content just reading stuff online and playing video games. Not the impressive console games that I got for Christmas, as those seem too intense at the moment, just the silly iPhone games that you can play with one hand. That’s the real spirit of laziness that I’ve adopted and I’m enjoying it immensely. And when even that seems like too much effort, I’ll just stare off into the distance and daydream of the silliest things I can imagine, like how I might look in pink when it’s finally winter scarf weather.

    1. Hey there Craig! 😃 I really liked them so far… takes very little color to get a rich vibrant look. I’m still experimenting with them as they are really different from other watercolors. But so far I’m really liking them. That said, I’m still leaning a bit toward Sennelier, just because the colors seem a bit more natural. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out Jessica’s review of them here: https://doodlewash.com/2016/03/26/pow-mission-gold-watercolors/

  1. Charlie, I like the color as well. Fortunately we guys have been liberated in recent years to wear all kinds of colors that might previously unthinkable. Go for it!

  2. I love your painting. The scarf looks so cosy and appealing. I have a thing for scarves that some people have for shoes or purses. I save loads of money by not caring for either of those items but loving scarves instead. Ha ha! As the tomboy mother of four boys, I don’t regard pink as a female colour. My boys wear pink. My view is that the ability to wear pink is down to skin tone rather than gender.

  3. What a fabulous pink scarf! I hate it when it’s too hot inside shops – sometimes they have the heating on too high and then leave the doors open! Maybe it will get cold enough outside soon for you to wear your scarf!

  4. I’m glad to read that you’re taking some time to be blissfully unproductive — because if you’re anything like me, that’s where the creative ideas come from. I’m also glad you took the time to paint this adorable pink scarf, even if I’m concerned that now you have me hankering for one. I think we should get one for you, too. 🙂
