World Watercolor Month – Day 8 – Making Lemonade

One week of World Watercolor Month has already gone by! I’m thrilled to have founded and now hosting this incredible global event each year. And I have to pause here and thank the amazing official sponsors who have made this year’s #WorldWatercolorMonth possible. Thanks so much to: Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff | Daniel Smith | Da Vinci Paint Co. | Grumbacher | Hahnemühle | M. Graham & Co. | Princeton Artist Brush Co. | Rembrandt | Winsor & Newton ! I really can’t thank these companies enough for their generosity in providing amazing things to give to you, and most of all, for supporting our charitable partner, The Dreaming Zebra Foundation, helping get art supplies to underprivileged kids in the world who really need them, which is at the heart of what this month is all about. I hope each of you reading this will consider making a donation and making a child’s dream come true! For those of you taking on the ultimate challenge of 31 watercolors in 31 days, congrats to making it through week one! For my Day 8 entry, I’ve followed today’s prompt  of “cooling off” and my mind went to a cool glass of lemonade in the summer. Cheers to you all!

As a kid, I loved lemonade and, of course, had my own lemonade stand set up in the summer months. The idea that you could be so small and yet create something that would get all your neighbors to drop by and support you, was such a wonderful thing! Some days, I still feel like that little kid with big dreams to bring everyone together. That’s why I founded World Watercolor Month. I wanted to create a venue that would allow everyone to celebrate in their own totally unique way. I love seeing the wonderfully original ideas that people have come up with to celebrate the month! This is a month made for everyone to join in and share their love of this phenomenal medium. Whether you’re a plein air painter, urban sketcher, studio artist, mixed media artist, abstract artist, or any type of watercolor lover at all, this month was created just for you! Just add the hashtag #WorldWatercolorMonth whenever you post your watercolor art (and invite your friends to do the same!) and join the global gallery so we can make a splash together!

And, of course, since this is a month about giving, I have once again have something wonderful to share. This sample is for residents of the U.S. and Canada only, but check back each day as I also have samples that ship to more locations around the world. Today, I have 15 palettes of 24 watercolor dot samples from our official sponsor Da Vinci Paint Co.! Simply let me know you’d like one by commenting directly on Doodlewash with “Let’s Make A Splash”! And a special thanks so much for dropping by this little site each day. Your dedication and enthusiasm for watercolor makes my heart smile. I may be WAY older than that little boy who had a dream to bring his neighbors together, but not much has really changed. I still want the world to join together in a beautiful tapestry of art and with your help, I’m making that dream a reality. Thank you all for your incredible support from all over the world, and in return I’m sending you all a virtual hug. From that little boy with a dream, who didn’t think he was starting a movement, but was simply super happy to be making lemonade.

  1. Let’s make a splash! Amazing paintinf today as always, looking forward to the rest of World Watercolor Month as well! It’s already been so fun, with so many beautiful paintings.

  2. Let’s make a splash, Charlie! I love painting lemons- used to do them in oil- now I will be trying to paint them in Watercolors!

    1. Awesome!! That’s great to hear! Yeah, I’ve never tried oils in my life… hehe… but I became addicted to watercolors! I’m all out of samples for today, unfortunately, but check back each day for more!! 😃
