World Watercolor Month is an annual global charitable event featuring the ultimate challenge of 31 Watercolors is 31 Days! Yes!

History Of World Watercolor Month

Doodlewash Mixed Fruit World Watercolor Month July 2016 - worldwatercolor.comLET’S MAKE A SPLASH TOGETHER!

Charlie O’Shields, the creator of Doodlewash®, founded World Watercolor Month in 2016. His own love of the medium led to the creation of a blog and social artist movement dedicated to promoting and connecting the vast community of watercolor artists all over the world. After hosting a few early art challenges, celebrating various fun and delightfully obscure holidays, it became apparent that there wasn’t an official celebration of the medium we all love. Over 18,000 applications are submitted for “official days” each year and only 30 are added to the calendar so it was a long shot, but the registrars agreed with the cause and now it’s official! July is now and forever World Watercolor Month!

It’s a month to inspire people to paint with watercolor (watercolour, aquarelle) while raising awareness for the importance of art and creativity in the world. And anyone can join the celebration from master watercolorists to artists just starting out with watercolor! Simply tag any art that uses watercolors (or gouache) with #WorldWatercolorMonth during the month of July! Try the ultimate challenge of 31 watercolors in 31 days, or simply post when you can! It’s just about maintaining a regular art practice and having fun!

And, best of all, you’ll be part of raising awareness for children in need of art supplies and art education around the globe through our partnership with The Dreaming Zebra Foundation! (see more below)

Help Young Artists

The Dream Zebra Foundation Logo - Donate art supplies to celebrate World Watercolor Month July 2016 Research has shown that art education has a tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child and has proven to help level the learning field across socioeconomic boundaries. Unfortunately, arts education programs are too often the first to be cut when cuts are made, so more and more children each year are missing out on the important benefits of art classes.

The Dreaming Zebra Foundation charity for Art supplies and art education for underprivileged childrenWith your help, we can reverse this trend. We’ve teamed up with The Dreaming Zebra Foundation, a charity providing support so that children and young adults are given an equal opportunity to explore and develop their creativity in the arts.

NOTE: New Supply Donations Only Please

For those who desire to donate art supplies that have been used or their packaging opened, we sincerely appreciate your offers, but we are currently unable to accept them due to recent health safety measures enacted by many organizations and schools across the nation. We also wish to be considerate of the safety of our volunteers, and of those who handle, distribute, and receive donations. We will continue to welcome donations of new supplies. Thanks for understanding!

And please consider making a monetary donation! (Just $10 ships art supplies to a child!) Your donation is tax deductible and supports access to art and music supplies for underprivileged young artists.

You can also support the cause, by simply sending your new, unopened art supplies to:

World-Watercolor-Month-Artist-Ambassador-Badge-2020At the heart of World Watercolor Month is the goal to raise money for The Dreaming Zebra Foundation and support arts education and our future artists. In 2018, we started a new tradition inspired by my friend Angela Fehr, who generously donated a portion of her classes during the first two years, that we’ve called Artist Ambassadors. In July 2020, these generous artists have pledged to donate at least $1 on each purchased class, painting, and/or other products on their site during the month of July!
