Heather Myers started the topic Finding a replacement for W&N Cotman Ultramarine half-pan in the forum Art Supplies You Use 2 years, 8 months ago
I have a Winsor & Newton travel watercolour kit that I bought at least ten years ago. I’m finally starting to run seriously low on ultramarine and I’ll need more. Trouble is, the colour I have isn’t very available any more. I’ve searched based on the number printed on the pan (0301660 (1A) 3917), and there are a couple ways to get another half-pan…[Read more]

Thank you for the reply, Karen! For the first few weeks of this crisis I wasn’t doing any art but I’ve started back up this week and it has helped.

I’ve been on hold for over an hour. I know they’re busy but I may be slowly going crazy. Fortunately I can spill that energy into this weird painting thingy. onhold

Heather Myers started the topic Seeking W&N dots sample via DO shop in the forum How To Use The Site 3 years, 5 months ago
The instructions for using the DO shop seem to be outdated. The leaderboard doesn’t appear on the Community tab any more, and I don’t have the indicated icons on my profile about my points. Since I first found out I could get the sample set of professional watercolours I’ve been excited to reach enough points to order one, but I can’t find them…[Read more]

Tonight I tried two more of the loose and free watercolours. They’re still wet so I’ll upload them later. The last one I did on a 10 x 14 block. I’ve had this block for years and never even took the plastic off it. I’m so much more comfortable with smaller works. But I went for it. I was being called (so to speak) by earthy, deserty tones, so I…[Read more]

This one I know the scanner mucked with the colour. The pink is very bright in the actual painting. I used Jane Davenport paints for this and the smaller piece I posted earlier. That pink is the “Best Friend” colour, which is a neon pink if I’ve ever seen one. This one is better than the previous ones, I feel, but there’s still kind of a dead zone…[Read more]

The second of my ‘loose and free’ watercolours. I got decent pigment this time but I have a muddled bit in the centre. There’s some nice feathering effects where colours ran together, but this one feels… a bit dead somehow. loosefree_2

This is the first ‘loose and free’ watercolour I tried after watching Angela Fehr’s video. I used tube watercolours because those matched the colours she used, and I loved the effects she got so I figured I’d start close to her example. I didn’t use enough pigment so the colours are washed out. Additionally, I’m pretty sure my scanner is mangling…[Read more]

I\'ve got a couple more of these in the pipe, and I welcome any suggestions anybody has for how I might improve them. Or if you think they\'re already great, I\'d love to know why! 🙂 loosefree_1 -

Very pretty. I like the contrast of the bluer green in the shutters with the warmer green in the plants. And the sort of rainbow effect you have in your shadows is cool.

Yeeesssss! This is me: this is what I love best. I struggle sometimes with the urge to just mix colours and water and play with them, since I wind up with some puddles of colour that aren’t actually… a thing. But I still do it sometimes cause it’s just too much fun. Going to look for your videos and class. Thanks for this post!

Augh, Facebook is such butt! Trying to get back into my account required me to pester three friends for codes, and then that didn’t even work! I’m thinking of just making a new account. All I want to do is join art communities. And there might be advantages to starting over too. Hm.

I decided to try a sketch of some of my art tools on proper 140 lb watercolour paper after liking the general look of a similar sketch I did in my journal. The scissors are out of proportion… next time I do this I’ll try a contour sketch first to help with that. Art Tools

A spread from my latest journal. I seem to be addicted to drawing my art tools. And, in this case, random ladybugs. Hey, ladybugs are cool! Drop-shadows are also cool. When you do them right, eheh. This paper is not suited for watercolour (though that doesn’t stop me apparently) and I’ve done a similar still life of art tools on watercolour paper,…[Read more]

I’ve been drawing and painting off and on for years, just because I found it fun. Since the Sketchbook Revival 2019 I have been drawing/painting at least one thing pretty much every single day, which is amazing for me! Since I got more seriously into art I’ve been pondering if/when/how to attempt to sell it. We are on a very limited budget here…[Read more]

I don’t have the Cotman Ultramarine so I don’t know exactly what colors will work best for you. The number you need to know, if it is listed on the Cotman, is the Pigment Index number. It would start with PB (for Pigment Blue) and be followed by two numbers. Most Ultramarine blues are PB29, but French Ultramarine is redder in color than the…[Read more]
