Banana Trees by Sari Atika Sundari

GUEST ARTIST: “Banana Trees” by Sari Atika Sundari

Here’s another gorgeous doodlewash from the talented Sari Atika Sundari (@sari_atika) in Jakarta, Indonesia who’s previous post can be seen here. She visited an older friend of hers recently, who’s both a mentor and like a father. They often paint together, and he pointed out to her to pay close attention to the effects of each brush stroke. He also suggested that she should try to use only watercolors to paint, without using a pencil first. This is the result of that exercise! And it’s incredibly good!!

Her Instagram post inspired me to try doing the same, albeit with a much less complex subject (French macarons). (It’s wonderful being inspired by other doodlewashers!) She painted this with only watercolor, good paper, and a good mood. Pretty much all you need to make a great doodlewash! She says, “I’m not a perfectionist girl… but I try to be myself…without pencil or not…I do…I want… And I make something.” And what you make is incredibly beautiful, Sari! Keep DOing it!
