First freehand sketch completely in pen! This is a doodlewash of stairs leading up to the Liberty Memorial here in Kansas City. I nearly regretted my choice for the sketch because I realized that stairs are actually kind of hard. But I went for it and this was the result.
The Liberty Memorial is above the National World War I Museum, and is a memorial to the service men and women who served in World War I. It’s the only American museum solely dedicated to this war and a truly incredible experience. If you’re ever in Kansas City, definitely make time to take a tour.

I think the stairs came out great. I wouldn’t have dared tried it without my trusty pencil. You’re braver than me.
I’m just toying with bravery Kit…hehe…still a bit terrified, but I figure if I keep doing it, it might become second nature. Or I could remain forever terrified…guess we’ll see! Lol
…the choice gives the piece energy and presence–it is difficult to do a formal memorial without falling into a predictable composition and this avoids that.
Wow, thanks so much Lance! Yeah…this is sort of a little known back way in. Hehe…seemed like a more interesting angle.
