Today, I was in a particularly good mood so I decided to find a reference for a bird that fit the same state of mind. I ended up with this rock kestrel who seemed to be rather delighted by something he saw, so I decided to sketch him. No singular thing happened today that made me happy. It was simply a series of events in the right order that all worked out rather nicely. That makes for a lovely day indeed, and so, I ended it smiling. Well, it’s not quite over yet, actually, but I’ve made my watercolor for the day and am rambling once more so it’s a signal that it must be nearly at the end. For the past several weeks, I’ve been scrambling to keep up with things. All self-induced things based on my various dreams and aspirations or trying to optimize this site so it loads wonderfully for you. All excitingly ambitious things, of course, but still a bit overwhelming. I have a habit of trying to do far more than is humanly possible, but I’ve always found that simply trying to do something is most of the fun in the end.

There are just so many little things to be happy about these days. Philippe and I finished our cookbook which was a rather big milestone recently. It quickly switched to backordered on Amazon, but it’s really just now print on demand, so if you’re interested, go ahead and place your order and it should still arrive soon!  (and there are also limited edition premium versions left if you’re interested, just click here!) Another thing that makes me very happy is that when I started this blog on WordPress.com, I quickly found lots of wonderful friends. And I soon learned that the 8th day of each month was a perfect day to paint birds. The official Draw A Picture Of A Bird Day is in April, but many of my Worpress.com peeps wanted to keep it going all year and I think that’s lovely! That’s why you’ll still often find a bird as a prompt on the 8th day of each month. Doodlewash has since become much more than a blog, but I’ve never forgotten how it all started and I adore the fellow bloggers who have encouraged me along the way and made it all happen, even if I can’t comment as much as I used to. Much love to you all!

And the idea of having a day to celebrate something wonderful stuck with me. I even dedicated whole months to sketching things from the various days that people celebrate. This led to my idea to found an entire month to the celebration of watercolor and why July is now officially World Watercolor Month. So, yeah, there’s much to be happy about! So many wonderful things have happened once I decided to paint and write daily and put it all out there for others to view. But the best thing that’s happened is that I’ve managed to inspire others to do the same. I just wanted to take a moment to thank each of you who paint, post and continue to spread the joy of watercolor. This is such an incredible medium that has added so much color and joy to my life. And my only goal in starting this site was to spread the love and encourage as many people as I could along the way. I’m thrilled you showed up and joined me. This is definitely the movement that I rambled on about with my first bursts of enthusiasm. If we all work together, we’re a force that can’t be stopped. And that, is the real reason why I’m smiling today, and happy as a bird.

  1. Your bird does look happy. I love his eyes. I love today’s ramble too. It’s nice break in the evening to read what you’ve written. I always finish it up with a smile and a better attitude for finishing off the day.
