Just when I was beginning to think I had enough palettes with Daniel Smith watercolours. Ah Charlie, I’m gonna be on that 15-pan Sketcher Set like butter on bread.

I’m so excited!! This will be a great way to try more colors!! And the different palettes look great….I think I want them all 🙂
hehe! Awesome, Leah! Coming soon in October! 🙂
When I saw the initial teaser photo, I thought “hmmm…those look like Jane Blundell’s ultimate mixing colors” because…I have one palette set up with those 😉 I’m intrigued by the choices in the Sketcher’s set because I’ve recently swapped both transp red oxide and Monte Amiata natural sienna into my own palette (replacing burnt sienna and yellow ocher/raw sienna).
Seems rather silly that they won’t do open stock as well. I can definitely vouch for a big difference in how those hand poured pans look compared to MY “hand poured” pans of DS paints 😉
It’s definitely an exciting development! This is the early announcement, so definitely stay tuned to Daniel Smith on Instagram to learn more: https://www.instagram.com/danielsmithartistsmaterials/
me too!!!!!
hehe! yay! 🙂
Great idea. It would be wonderful if Daniel Smith began to sell in Ireland but until then hopefully Jacksons in the UK will sell these pan sets.

My pleasure, Kelly! 🙂 Yeah…these definitely have a collect all 6 vibe to them don’t they?
Hello Charlie, What a fun site and wonderful news. I’ve not felt confident yet to participate with world watercolor month but I’m getting close. I’m currently putting together a travel set with my Daniel Smith Watercolor sticks to teach myself color mixing and used Jane’s suggested colors to get me started. It will be interesting for me to learn how different the stick form is in comparison to the hand poured half pans. I’m sure I will be purchasing a new DS palette or two when they are available since I can’t resist…… Anyway, I will be back to read more on this resourceful site.
Warm regards,
~ Karla
Yay! Yes, these sets are going to be so awesome!! So happy you found Doodlewash, Karla! 🙂 You can also log in to this site with Facebook and post here as well.. it’s a super supportive and much smaller community and there’s also a Beginner’s to Watercolor group! Hope you’ll check it out! My post today, for Day 11, is all about conquering my own shyness. I was terrified to post anything and just went for it… and well… this site happened. 😉 So now I just say go for it!
Oh YES! Jane Blundell!!! AT LAST!
hehe! Yay! Yeah, this is really exciting news! 🙂
What is meant with the * and “unique” colors? Wisteria for example is a “normal” Daniel Smith colour, I have a tube of it ?
Yes… the “unique” simply means unique to Daniel Smith. A color only they produce. 😉
Delighted! Almost all of these( on the set of 15) are already on my regular palette. Makes me feel like a wise ole woman!
hehe! I’m sure you are a wise woman, Dee! 😉 Yeah, these are going to be wonderful sets to have!
I hope Jane’s Grey will be available in tubes too!
At launch, it will only be available in pans only. Not sure what the future holds though. 😉
Wow! Daniel Smith is finally giving Schmincke a run for their money with hand-poured half-pans! I wonder if they’ll eventually expand it to all of their line like Schmincke already has. This is great news!
Yeah, it’s really exciting! Glad you enjoyed this big little piece of news! 😉
OMG! I’m going to have to start saviing up for the 15 colors. Can’t wait.
hehe! Yay! Exciting news for sure, Judy! 🙂
Wow exciting, sorry purse your going to get purged
hehe! Yep! This is a truly exciting announcement! 😉
Hurry up and release these already!!!!!
Coming in the fall!! Just a wee bit more time! 😉

The Daniel Smith half pan sets with six colors have a suggested retail price of US$55.31. These will come in the same 15-half pan palette and include 15 half pans (so nine extra half pans).
I’m ogling that Buff Titanium — it’s the toned neutral I’ve been searching for!
hehe! Yep! Totally awesome color! 😉
Ahhhh I would really love to try this set!!
hehe.. they’ll be in stores at the end of October, Amy!! 😉 And I have a giveaway running now, you can enter here – https://doodlewash.com/giveaways/daniel-smith-half-pan-set-giveaway/
Daniel Smith is actually one of the best brands of watercolors, and this sets will be very popular among watercolorist. I can’t wait to get one and do some plain air this fall… South Indiana is a great spot to be in the fall and that’s where I am…. What a luck!!!!
Wow. Just amazing. Who doesn’t want one.
-Ashok
Totally… these are going to be awesome!!
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful color values!!! Daniel Smith never lets me down.
Yep! Daniel Smith is amazing! These are going to be amazing sets!! Coming out super soon now! 🙂
This isn’t exactly the Ultimate mixing set. The actual set has pyrrol crimson in the set but this one has permanent alizarin crimson instead. Why were these switched I wonder?
Oh wow… thanks for catching that Glenn! Daniel Smith lists the color as permanent alizarin crimson, but indeed it’s different than Jane’s palette. I’ll have to check into that to see what’s up!
Glenn, I know that the Blues set was changed due to technical difficulties with Blue Apatite Genuine. It’s possible that a similar change was made with the pyrrol crimson.
What is the inside dimension of the Daniel Smith half pans? I’m tryin to visualize the amount of paint.
I’m not actually sure, Gale, but you might post a comment to one of the two reviewers and see on a couple of the sets to see if they can get you the dimensions. There’s one here – https://doodlewash.com/daniel-smith-sketcher-half-pan-set-review/ and here – https://doodlewash.com/daniel-smith-ultimate-mixing-half-pan-set-review/
